A man with a gun disrupted rush hour activity around City Hall this morning. The man was spotted holding a gun and was approached by police. During the standoff, street traffic was diverted and SEPTA trains did not stop at the 15th Street stop under City Hall. The man, in his 20’s, fired a shot at police. They returned fire, wounding the man and apprehended him. No police were hurt.

Sixteen-year-old Nafis Scott of Germantown was arrested and taken into custody after opening fire on two other teens. Police say Scott shot the teens following a neighborhood dispute that began last month. The incident played out on JFK Boulevard, a few blocks away from the Welcome America! festivities on the Parkway Wednesday. Police have charged Scott with two counts of aggravated assault, assault on a police officer and fire arms violations.

Philadelphia Police have identified the shooting suspect from last night's gun fire that broke out during the Welcome America concert and fireworks on the Parkway. 16-year-old Nafis Scott of Germantown was arrested and taken into custody.
Scott is accused of shooting both a 17 and a 19-year-old in the leg along JFK Boulevard between 16th and 17th just a block from the back of the festivities on the Ben Franklin Parkway. The incident apparently extends from a neighborhood dispute... Read More |

Msgr. William J. Lynn learned his fate today regarding his bail request pending sentencing. Judge Sarmina sided with Philadelphia prosecutors, who said that Lynn was a flight risk, especially if he left the country to Vatican City which has no extradition treaty. Lynn was requesting to be granted bail and house arrest before his sentencing hearing August 13th on his conviction of child endangerment. Independence Day in Philadelphia wouldn't be complete without the annual tapping of the Liberty Bell. The annual tapping of the bell honors the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the 56 signers. Eight decedents of four of the signers were joined by some lawmakers and two new U.S. citizens who wore white gloves and lightly tapped this symbol of freedom and hope 13 times to represent the 13 original colonies.

The owners of the Philadelphia Eagles are getting divorced. Eagle owners Jeffrey and Christina Lurie met in the late 80's, married and bought the Eagles together in 1994. The Lurie's claim they will continue to work together as partners and the divorce will have no impact on the care and feeding of the Eagles. So no fighting over who gets the team on Sundays.

At around 9:20 pm Wednesday night, shooting broke out at the far back of the Welcome America festivities along the Ben Franklin Parkway. It ended with three teenagers shot. A 16-year-old suspect is believed to have shot a 17-year-old in the leg near 16th and JFK. He then shot a 19-year-old at 17th and JFK as the crowd was dispersing.
