Missing Swimmer in Seaside Park; Pine Hill Teacher Sentenced; Manuel, Halladay Honored by Phillies

A man went missing after swimming off the coast in Island Beach State Park south of Seaside Park, NJ Friday afternoon. The 25-year-old was a French tourist and reportedly had not had experience swimming the in ocean before. The conditions were rough at the time and there were no lifeguards on duty on that stretch of beach. Coast Guard and local crews are searching by boat and helicopter or the missing man. He is visiting family in Pennsylvania and Canada.

There is a lot of finger pointing over who launched the surface-to-air missile that shot down a Malaysian Airlines passenger jet over Ukraine carrying almost 300 passengers. Ukraine accused pro-Russian separatists. However the rebels have denied downing the plane. American intelligence is working to determine whether the missile came from the Russian or Ukrainian side of the border.

A Malaysia Airlines passenger plane carrying 298 people was shot down over eastern Ukraine on Thursday. Ukrainian officials said, and both the government and the pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the aircraft. The bulk of the passengers were from the Netherlands -- 154 people. Next highest was 43 from Malaysia and 27 from Australia. A passenger plane carrying 295 people on it's way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur has crashed in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border. Ukrainian officials have said that Malaysian Flight 17 was at its cruising altitude of 33,000 feet when it was hit by a surface-to-air missile. Police have charged the 23 year old West Philadelphia man in custody in connection with the brutal murder of Laura Araujo, a recent graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia. Jeremiah Jackson, charged with murder, lived in the same building at the 40th and Brown as his victim. He confessed to killing her while being questioned by police yesterday. The motive was money.
