Reading Phillies announce new team name Fightin Phils |

The Reading Phillies announced on Saturday the new name for the baseball franchise that has been the Double-A minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies for 46 Years. Paying homage to that tradition the team will now be known as the Fightin Phils. The big league club has affectionately been called "Fightins" since the Whiz Kids era on the '50s. Hostess Brands Inc. said yesterday that it failed to reach an agreement with its second-biggest union. As a result, Hostess plans to continue with a hearing today in which a bankruptcy court judge will decide if the company can shutter its operations.
Even if Hostess goes out of business, its popular brands will likely find a second life after being snapped up by buyers.

A three alarm fire erupted this morning around 5:30 a.m. at a chemical plant in Doylestown. The P&R Industries chemical plant is on the 3800 block of Old Easton Road near the Doylestown Airport. The 55,500-square-foot Arbonite Coating & Lining building is just northwest of the airport. Hazardous materials response teams were on the scene. It was a beautiful day for the Philadelphia Marathon and Half Marathon their 28,500 participants. The sold-out race opened it's doors at the last minute to 1,454 runners from the cancelled New York City Marathon that was to occur just after Hurricane Sandy hit the area.
