Philadelphia Inspector's Son Shot in FDR Park; South Street Melee; NJ Forest Fire Grows 10,000 Acres

The son of a Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector was shot and killed on Saturday night, 3/30, while tailgating in FDR Park following the late afternoon Phillies game. It happened around 10 p.m. inside of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park on the 1400 block of Pattison Ave. 20-year-old Nicholas Flacco, the son of Chief Inspector of Internal Affairs Chris Flacco, was shot once in the chest. A missing New Jersey girl who was a student at the University of South Carolina was found dead just a day after she was reported missing. 21-year-old Samantha Josephson from Robbinsville, NJ, was a senior political science major at the university located in Columbia, South Carolina. Police have arrested 24-year-old Nathaniel David Rowland and charged him with murder and kidnapping. A man is now in custody after a barricade situation snarled rush hour in Center City on Friday afternoon, 3/29. It started just after 5 p.m. on the 1500 block of Ranstead Street located to the southwest of City Hall. Philadelphia Police were called out for the report of vandalism. A man has been charged with murder after he shot and killed the mother of his child in a Wawa in Delaware County on Thursday night, 3/28. It happened around 8:20 p.m. at the store located at 151 Sugartown Road in Radnor. 34-year-old Brian Kennedy of Devon is charged with first and third-degree murder, criminal homicide, and related charges. A jury of twelve spent 11 hours deliberating over 3 days in a Doylestown, Bucks County courthouse to come to a unanimous decision in the sentencing hearing of 46-year-old Jacob Sullivan. The jurors decided to impose the death penalty on the man that admitted he raped, drugged, murdered, and dismembered his girlfriend's adopted 14-year-old daughter Grace Packer in 2016. Faculty and staff members of the Community College of Philadelphia voted on Wednesday night, 3/27, to go on strike. The strike could begin on or after April 1st if there is no further progress in negotiations with school administration. The American Federation of Teachers Local 2026 represents 1,200 members at CCP. The vote to strike came after three years of contract negotiations. All but 4 members voted to approve the strike. On Wednesday, 3/27, Temple University is holding its first of two MMR Vaccination Clinics due to the recent number of mumps cases on campus. Hundreds of students already have lined up to get the free vaccine. Temple officials say they prepared to give out 1,800 shots just today. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has closed down three dental practices for improper reprocessing and sterilization of dental equipment, as well as lapses in injection safety practices. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) has ordered an emergency removal of all children currently remaining at the Glen Mills School in Delaware County following allegations of abuse and cover-ups spanning decades. All children remaining at the reform school, located about 25 west of Philadlephia, "will be removed and relocated as soon as this can be safely accomplished."
