Democrat Phil Murphy was sworn in on Tuesday in Trenton as the 56th governor of New Jersey, taking over for two-term Republican Chris Christie. Murphy took the oath on same bible as President John F. Kennedy. Murphy is a former Wall Street executive who worked for Goldman Sachs and also served in the Obama administration as ambassador to Germany. An Eagles fan from Whitehall Township has been charged with punching a Philadelphia Police horse over the weekend. Police say that 22-year-old Taylor Hendricks was ejected from the Eagles game on Saturday for being intoxicated and while leaving the game he punched the police horse on the 1100 block of Pattison Avenue. Outgoing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed a bill that bans bump stocks and trigger cranks. The stocks or cranks easily convert a normal semi-automatic rifle into rapid-firing weapon that simulates a fully automatic rifle. They are the same devices used by the gunman in the Las Vegas concert attack. Previously, under NJ law it was not unlawful to own the stock, but you could not legally use them. An ice jam is causing minor flooding along the Delaware River near Trenton, NJ and Yardley, Bucks County in Pennsylvania. SEPTA has announced the revised Regional Rail schedule that went into effect on this past Sunday. Some of the big changes will have the trains leaving the station earlier or later than previously scheduled. Today marks the 23rd Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. It is the largest collective day of service in the country with over 145,000 volunteers participating in events and activities throughout the region. A car crashed into the icy Delaware River in Burlington City, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon leaving the female passenger dead and the male driver in police custody. Almost one thousand gathered to remember and say goodbye to Philadelphia Fire Lt. Matthew LeTourneau today who lost his life fighting a fire last Saturday.
