The Free Library of Philadelphia is holding a block party Saturday in North Philadelphia and it's all about words. The goal is to close the literacy gap between lower income and higher income families. Thirty million words — that's the difference in the vocabulary of a child from higher income versus a child from an economically challenged one. Two Philadelphia men have been arrested for the murder of a Lower Moreland man during a home invasion at the end of September. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman announced today that 20-year-olds Naadir Abdul-Ali and Desmond Smith were arrested last week in the shooting death of 53-year-old Kevin Brown. A Montgomery County mother has pleaded guilty to injecting her 14-year-old daughter and her daughter's boyfriend with heroin. 36 year old Patricia Davenport of Harleysville entered a guilty plea last week and her trial begins today. Another mom was arrested for a similar crime in Chester County last week. Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze Wednesday night at a vacant warehouse in Southwest Philadelphia. The fire was reported at about 8:30 p.m. near 70th Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway. Fire officials and neighbors say the building at one point was a paper warehouse. No injuries have been reported and there is no word on a cause.

Over 60 people at a Mercer County, New Jersey company received a medical alert after it was a learned that a nurse had reused the same syringe when administering flu shots to employees. 67 employees were given the shots at the Otsuka Pharmaceutical offices on the 500 block of Carnegie Center in West Windsor, NJ. NASA will be launching a suborbital rocket tonight from it's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia. The launch is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT with a two hour launch window to 9 pm. The rocket launch should be visible from many points across the U.S. East Coast including right here in the Philadelphia, NJ, and DE area.

The owner of the Wildwood home that washed into the bay is paying to have the home and debris removed from the water. Meanwhile some neighbors are saying good riddance to the Grassy Sound home swept off its pilings Saturday. They say it was a structurally unsound nuisance and the home was doomed to wind up in the bay. Police are investigating the death of a transgender woman in Philadelphia's Hunting Park neighborhood, who they say was assaulted by a group of males and shot. Police are being very careful not to call this a hate crime at this time and are investigating the murder of 22-year-old Kiesha Jenkins. Police received reports of a shooting around 2:30 a.m. When police arrived, they found Jenkins shot twice in the back.

A former America's Junior Miss from New Jersey died after being found unconscious in a doorway in New York. Kiersten Cerveny, who grew up in Gloucester County, was found unconscious Sunday in the doorway of a New York City apartment building. She was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 38 year old mother of three was a dermatologist and lived on Long Island. Toxicology and autopsy reports are pending.
