Officials say a first grade student at North Philadelphia's General John F. Reynolds School brought a loaded hand gun to school on Monday morning. The student was allegedly showing the gun to other children at the school, and one of those children reported it to school police. The child who brought the gun into the school was taken to the principal's office, where his backpack was searched and the gun recovered.

A gunman and four people were shot today at a courthouse in Wilmington Delaware, the result of a bitter child custody dispute. The shooter is also dead. It all happened in the lobby of the courthouse where the gunman opened fire on two women killing both of them. Two law enforcement officers were also shot but protected by their bullet proof vests. Investigators are trying to determine if the shooter was killed by police or took his own life.

Pope Benedict has made the decision to resign, citing his failing health. This is the first time a Pope has resigned since 1450. The Associated Press announcement below:

Philadelphia City Council members will be looking at expanding its use of surveillance cameras to deter crime. Council members visited Baltimore last month to see how that city has ramped up its crime camera program. One reason Baltimore has more extensive surveillance is that the city has tapped into hundreds of private cameras at colleges, hospitals and businesses. Philadelphia has 200 surveillance cameras, while Baltimore has more than 600.

Lumberton Police need the public's help in finding a missing 61-year-old woman. Angelina "Angel" Cocuzza disappeared from her home at the Lumberton Independent Living campus on Route 38 near Madison Avenue on Jan. 18. Family and police believe she may have intentions to harm herself. She is 5' 5" and weighs about 115 pounds. A task force from the Special Victims Unit executed a search warrant Friday acting on an anonymous tip in the Nailla Robinson abduction case. Police raided and searched a home in the 6200 block of Walton Avenue. The home is located 2 blocks from Bryant Elementary School in West Philadelphia where the 5-year-old girl was taken from her classroom and near a trail that goes to the playground where Nailla was found early the next morning. It looks like the snow amounts will be less than forecast earlier for the Philadelphia region, as precipitation has held off and the storm is moving away slightly.
