Widener Free Medical Care, Born To Run Home For Sale, PA's Oldest Living Female Marine 100th Bday

A local university nursing school is helping the community stay healthy. The Widener community nursing clinic provides free or low cost medical care to needy patients in Chester. Director, Ellen Boyda says it's a great opportunity for students at nearby Widener University. She said patients have included homeless members of the community and those who can’t afford medical care. The clinic depends on volunteers for all its services.

A two-alarm fire broke out at Lulu Country Club in Glenside, Montgomery County Sunday morning. Fire crews were called around 6:30 a.m. to the 1600 block of Limekiln Pike near Jenkintown Road. A second alarm was quickly called. Over 100 firefighters from 8 companies were on the scene fighting the fire. A 2-year-old boy was found wandering alone and barefoot in LOVE Park in Center City overnight Friday night. A pedestrian saw the boy in the park and flagged down a SEPTA transit officer around 11:50 pm. He was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for evaluation. The boy was wearing a long sleeve green shirt, black running pants, and a diaper, but did not have shoes or socks. Body Pulled From Delaware River; Police Cruiser in Accident in Franklin; Four Men Wanted in Robbery

Philadelphia Police pulled a body from the Delaware River Friday evening near Penn's Landing. It was discovered by two women walking near Christopher Columbus Boulevard and the Market Street ramp just before 7 pm. The Marine Unit recovered the body and took it back to Marine headquarters on Washington Avenue. Police say the body belongs to a black female ages 20-40 years old. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.

Philadelphia Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy earlier this week. Dimitrius Brown of Logan has been charged with murder, conspiracy and firearm violations in the fatal shooting of Duval DeShields of South Philadelphia. It happened on Monday, October 12th around 8:40 p.m. on the 1200 block of North 10th Street. Authorities say the two teens got into an argument which ended with gunfire. Police are searching for suspects wanted in a jewelry store heist in Rittenhouse Wednesday night. Time & Gold jewelry store at 19th and Chestnut got ripped off for thousands of dollars in valuables and jewels. It was a Hollywood style heist. The criminals tunneled their way in through a vacant burger joint and cleaners next to the jewelry store. They used high power tools to get through the walls and into the safe. Police say a Walmart employee was stabbed early Friday morning during a robbery at the store in Northeast Philadelphia. This happened around 1:30 a.m. on the 4300 block of Byeberry Road at Philadelphia Mills when the cashier confronted a man trying to leave the store with a TV and a couple of boxes of boots. The thief got away with the TV in what police describe as a grey or light-colored hatchback, but are dusting the boxes of boots which were left behind, for fingerprints.

Two Plead Guilty in CC Gay Beating; MontCo Candidate Won't Sign Licenses; North Star Bar Closing

Two Bucks County men have pled guilty in the beating of a gay couple in Center City last September and avoided jail time. 24-year-old Philip Williams pled guilty to aggravated assault and conspiracy and received 5 years probation. 26-year-old Kevin Harrigan pled guilty to simple assault and conspiracy and received 3 years probation. Both will have to perform 200 hours of community service at a LGBT-related organization. They will not be able to enter Center City during their probation.... Read More

A resurrected rail route between Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley is among the possibilities being considered in a two-year study looking at transportation options for the rapidly growing region. The MoveLV: Long Range Transportation Plan will look for the best transportation options for the Allentown-Easton-Bethlehem region. Surveys conducted suggest demand for a major rail project. Police say a Temple University student was carjacked at gunpoint early Thursday morning. It happened around 1 a.m. at 10th Street and Susquehanna Avenue. Authorities say a vehicle with New Jersey tags was taken from the student. There were no injuries.
