Democratic Governor Phil Murphy has won reelection in New Jersey. The race for governor was too close to call as votes continued to be counted on all day on Wednesday, 11/3. Murphy and challenger Republican Jack Ciattarelli were in a dead heat, separated by less than a percentage point. A senior student at La Salle College High School died suddenly on Saturday night, 10/30. Blake Barklage suffered sudden cardiac arrest. A letter to parents described Barklage, "In addition to being a good student, a tennis player, member of our Mock Trial team, and active in service at the Triest House, Blake was a varsity soccer manager." The Philadelphia 76ers have released their City Edition uniforms for the 2021-22 season. It pays homage to the Spectrum, 'America's Showplace,' which was the team's home from 1967 to 1996. They'll debut on Wednesday, November 3rd. They'll be available to purchase on 11/15. The boyfriend has been arrested in connection to the shooting of a mother and young daughter in Southwest Philadelphia early Thursday morning, 10/28. 34-year-old Desmond Bruson has been charged with aggravated assault, child endangerment, false reports, tampering and related offenses. A looming strike has been averted as SEPTA and their largest union have reached a tentative agreement for a new 2-year-deal ahead of the October 31 deadline. Transit Union Workers Local 234 represents around 5,000 city transit workers that operate buses, trains, and trolleys in Philadelphia. Singer Zayn Malik, formerly of One Direction, has pleaded 'no contest' to charges that he harassed his partner, supermodel Gigi Hadid, and her mother, reality TV star Yolanda Hadid. He was charged with four summary counts of harassment. A plea of 'no contest' means you do not admit guilt but you do accept punishment. The School District of Philadelphia announced on Thursday, 10/28, that schools will remain open on a normal schedule regardless of any possible SEPTA strike on Monday, November 1. If a strike does happen, any student who cannot make it to school because of transportation issues will be expected to login to Google Classroom for assignments and engage in asynchronous learning daily.
