NJ State of Emergency Declared, Mass Transit Modified Schedules, PENNDOT Snow Removal |

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie declared a State of Emergency for the severe winter storm that is hitting New Jersey. This authorizes the State Director of Emergency Management to activate and coordinate the preparation, response and recovery efforts for the storm. Governor Christie also authorized the closing of state offices on Friday for all non-essential employees.
Philadelphia Public and Archdiocesan schools will be closed on Friday.

Monsignor William Lynn left state prison today on bail after his conviction on child endangerment was overturned in December by a PA superior Court. Lynn spent the past 18 months at a prison in Waymart in northeastern Pennsylvania. Philadelphia Sherriff's department will take him to Philadelphia to fit him with his electronic monitoring device. Lynn will will go before Common Pleas Judge Sarmina on Monday to go over the terms of his release.

Annual Polar Bear plunges on New Year's Day have become more popular as fundraisers in recent years. Yesterday, the 23rd annual Polar Bear plunge in Atlantic City attracted hundreds of people to strip down and take the plunge into water temperatures in the 40's. Organizers dispute the notion that exposure to extreme elements makes you susceptible to colds. The event raises thousands of dollars for the Multiple Sclerosis Association.

The Vault at Vinyl Revival is a unique place to see and hear live music. The concert venue coupled with the record shop is unusual but natural. Combinations like chocolate and peanut butter at frist seem unusual but we all know are wonderful! Well so is this shop! Having about 50 seats is both a limitation and a major advantage. Philadelphia residents can start dropping off their Christmas trees for recycling on Monday, January 6th. The Streets Department says the program will run for two weeks through Saturday, Jan. 18. Monsignor William Lynn will be granted bail while his conviction on child endangerment goes through the appeals process. Judge Teresa Sarmina set bail at $250,000, requiring 10 percent to post. Lynn will also have to wear an electronic monitoring anklet while out on bail. Sarmina said that she wants Lynn to appear before her in person so that she can explain the full conditions of his release.
