Property reassessment figures just released seem to favor Mayor Nutter's push for real estate tax reform in Philadelphia. According to the first wave of data, the property tax rate under a new system would be considerably lower than the rates City Council predicted earlier this year.

One day after briefing city council on the overhaul of Philadelphia's property tax system, Mayor Nutter said the change will not be used to increase total revenues overall. The new reassessments of all Philadelphia properties will be used as the basis for tax bills due in 2014. The changeover, though, will be revenue neutral.

Obama was mostly silent on the issue of gun control for 4 years and during his reelection campaign. A gun buyback program in Camden has set a new 2 day record. The state sponsored cash-for-guns program returned 1,137 firearms over two days. According to officials, some gun owners were motivated to give up their weapons by the recent killings in Newtown Connecticut at Sandy Hill Elementary School.

Mayor Nutter held a closed-door briefing for City Council members Tuesday on next year's planned overhaul of Philadelphia property taxes. Sources say the total value of all city properties was put at just under $100-billion. Under the new system, some homeowners will come out ahead, while others are expected to pay higher property taxes in 2014. Residents will know their own individual assessment by February.

The former Miss Pennsylvania who claimed that the Miss USA contest was rigged has been ordered to pay the pageant $5 million for defamation. The arbitrator determined that Sheena Monnin’s comments were false, harmful and malicious. The arbitrator added that there was no reasonable possibility the judging was rigged. Bensalem police are looking for a mentally and physically disabled woman missing since yesterday. Kathleen Michaud was last seen on foot in Bensalem wearing a dark green jacket, dark pants and white sneakers. Michaud is legally disabled, has several physical and mental ailments and has not taken her medication in over a week. Anyone with information should contact Bensalem Police at 215-633-3719.

The funerals continue today in Newtown Connecticut. Today 6 year old Jessica Rekos will be laid to rest. Six schools in Newtown reopened today. But not Sandy Hill Elementary. The scene of Friday’s massacre is still an official crime scene. Investigators will be working for months examining every angle and interviewing witnesses, including children, as they try to understand what happened.

Atlantic City Man Dies In Police Shooting, Philadelphia Vigils Held For Newtown, CT

A police involved shooting in Atlantic City left an 18 year old suspect dead Monday afternoon. Police were called out to the Stanley Holmes Village Apartment Complex at about 2 p.m. after receiving reports of two armed black men in the area. One of the men, dropped his weapon. The other man disregarded the officers, fled on foot, was shot, and later died at the hospital.
