A route 47 SEPTA bus driver was maced by a woman on Tuesday night. The incident occurred at 5th Street and W. Olney Avenue in the city's Olney section. According to police, it took place around 7:45 p.m. when a bus stopped at the location. Officials say the driver went to assist a passenger, in a wheelchair, onto the bus. Commuters faced long delays and packed trains today on the first day back to work after SEPTA pulled one third of it's Regional Rail train cars due to a structural problem. Morning trains eventually had to skip stations on the way into Center City because they were full to capacity. Station platforms were crowded with people waiting to go home at the end of the day. SEPTA announced contingency plans today to deal with the reduced Regional Rail fleet due to emergency repairs on around one third of the cars. SEPTA will operate on a modified Saturday schedule Monday - Friday until further notice. Extra trains will be added during rush hours. A father and young son were killed and a third person sent to the hospital after a watercraft accident in Atlantic County on Saturday. It happened just before 5 p.m. in Patcong Creek near Jennings Gateway Marina in Somers Point, NJ. The fireworks show that provides the finale to Philadelphia's Independence Day festivities will be a bit earlier this year. The July 4th fireworks are scheduled to start at 10 p.m. Monday, after the Party on the Parkway and Wawa Welcome America! concert conclude. The 13 minute display has been pushed later in recent years because bands and music performances have run longer than scheduled.
