In an effort to avert a strike, SEPTA is in mediation sessions today. If rail workers strike this weekend, Regional Rail service will be suspended, affecting 60,000 riders. If there is no strike SEPTA will implement a wage hike on Sunday.

A former Philadelphia transit officer is charged with handcuffing a woman who complained that he cut the line for coffee at a Dunkin' Donuts on Christmas morning. Prosecutors say 42-year-old Douglas Ioven was in uniform and off duty at Suburban Station when he jumped the line. One woman complained that he stepped on her foot, prompting a confrontation between them. He then handcuffed her and charged her with disorderly conduct. One defendant entered a guilty plea today in the murder case of an off-duty police officer killed during a robbery. In cooperation with the prosecution, 21-year-old Chancier McFarland pled guilty to third degree murder in the death of Officer Moses Walker Jr. back in August 2012. Philadelphia Police have charged a mother and her live-in boyfriend after her first-grader brought in packets of heroin to school on Tuesday morning. 32-year-old Marie Hunter, and her live-in boyfriend, 28-year-old Christopher Troy-Jenkins White, have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of narcotics and recklessly endangering another person. A Frankford teenager has been reported missing by his parents. Fourteen year old Jose Luciano (pictured) went missing at 4 pm yesterday when he ran out of his home on the 1600 block of Worrell Street wearing no shoes or shirt. The teen has been diagnosed with ADHD and also has an arm disability. Jose Luciano is 5' 9" tall. If you see him, please call police.

Crews have finished removing the huge pile of dirt from beneath the I-495 bridge, a possible cause of the tilting problem on the bridge over the Christina River around Wilmington. In the meantime, questions remain about when the bridge that has shifted 18 inches out of line, started to tilt. The bridge was inspected and passed just a few months ago.

Andrew Vance, swimming at Cape Hanlopen Beach on the Delaware Bay Monday evening, suffered what experts say is a bite from a young sandbar shark. Officials say it is unheard of for a shark to bite swimmers in this area. Marine biologists say it is common to see sandbar sharks this time of year in the Delaware Bay, but a large sturgeon carcass that was on the beach for the past couple of days probably brought sharks in the area to feed on it. A Bensalem police officer was stabbed this afternoon while attempting to arrest an escaped prisoner in Bensalem, Bucks County. Police were notified of the escape at around 12:50 pm. The low risk prisoner went missing from a work release type program in Doylestown.
