Philadelphia Eagles' Head Coach Chip Kelly announced that Michael Vick will be the team's starting quarterback when the season opens September 9th versus the Washington Redskins. Doylestown Borough wants to crack down on the feral cat population roaming the streets. Council members there are discussing requiring cat owners to install locator chips on their collars. The move is in response to what supporters say will help reduce the stray cat population by dramatically increasing the likelihood stray cats will be returned to their owners.

The long line of school closure protests continued Monday evening as a couple dozen members of one West Philadelphia community gathered to voice their displeasure with the pending closure of Alexander Wilson Elementary school. City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell said she would like to see city officials come up with a viable plan to get students from a closing school to their new one.

A 56-foot fishing boat ran aground near Caesar's Pier in Atlantic City. The boat named Jessica Heather hit the beach after midnight near Missouri Ave. Some reports are that the captain apparently fell asleep while it was in autopilot. A 100-yard perimeter was setup around the boat, which had become a curiosity throughout the day among beach goers. SEPTA is getting ready to roll out its new high tech fare collection system that uses scan cards and a Validator. Riders will wave their card at what looks like a tablet or iPad and zip through to their train, trolley or bus. The idea is to speed things up and eliminate delays caused by riders who fumble with cash.

The Philadelphia School Reform Commission has voted to ignore seniority when rehiring teachers this year. Teachers are angry but William R. Hite says the plan gives the school district flexibility in hiring teachers for where they are most needed. The FBI raided the Philadelphia Sheriff's offices this morning. Agents arrived at the offices at 100 S. Broad around 9:00 am and served a subpoena and executive search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation begun in previous administrations. Agents were seen leaving the building with files and boxed of paperwork. No one was arrested and the Sheriff's department was fully cooperative.
