Nor'easter Dumping Snow, Jersey Shore Evacuations, PA's "Florida Gun Loophole" Closes |

The Nor'easter set up off the east coast started dumping snow on New England before lunchtime today. In Philadelphia, snow is expected to ramp up tonight and drop 2 to 3 inches in the city and South. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect in the northern suburbs where over 6 inches is expected. Snow will be heavy at times overnight and should end before noon Saturday.

The first major storm of the season is coming together and bearing down on the Philadelphia region. So far this afternoon mainly rain has fallen in the area, however that will change once the sun starts to set and the temperatures drop. We will all experience a changeover to snow with the heaviest downfall happening after midnight.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for the Philadelphia area ahead of a Major Winter Storm forming off the East coast in effect from 3pm Friday to 6am Saturday. The storm may start as a mix of snow and rain early Friday morning before changing to all rain during the daylight hours. A major Nor'easter will bury New England states in 2 feet of snow over the next couple of days. Travel will be a problem as Amtrak has already cancelled service between New York in Boston. And you can expect many flight cancellations in the northeast. Philadelphia will catch the southern edge of the storm with about 3 inched expected in the city and at least 6 inches in suburbs just north of the city.

Authorities say a seven year old boy had a loaded gun in his backpack at Universal Daroff Charter School in West Philadelphia Thursday. The boy got into school at 8 a.m. and put his bag away. Then, at 3 p.m. the boy found the gun in his bag and was the one who told his teacher. No one has been charged as police continue to investigate.

A number of low pressure systems moving across the United States will come together off the Mid-Atlantic coast starting on Thursday night. The system will end up dumping over a foot of snow to our north and east, with some areas of New England and Boston seeing upwards of two feet snow. We're talking about snow in the forecast again, but it appears Philadelphia will avoid the dumping they'll get in the Poconos and points north. A Nor'easter is forming but our air is warm enough that we’ll get rain most of the day Friday after it starts as snow in the morning. As the temperature drops Friday the changeover to snow could leave a few inches Friday night into Saturday.

The blizzard barreling down on the Northeast this weekend may bring Philadelphia a bit more snow than was originally predicted. The word from the National Weather Service now says that we should expect at least 2 inches of snow, maybe 4. The northern suburbs could get 6 inches or more and the Poconos could get close to a foot. The changeover from rain to snow will happen Friday afternoon and continue through Saturday morning.

In documents released today, a Middle School Art teacher and coach of the boys’ soccer team has been indicted on 92 counts of child abuse. 44 year old Charles Reilly of Pine Hill New Jersey was arrested in 2011 and indicted by a grand jury last month. Reilly faces counts of sexual assault, luring, enticing, and child pornography. Reilly has been suspended with pay from Pine Hill Middle School.
