Various religious groups filed a federal lawsuit protesting Philadelphia's ban on feeding the homeless outside in the city's public parks, on the grounds it violates the First Amendment and Pennsylvania's Religious Freedom Protection Act. The ACLU and the law firm of Kairys, Rudovsky, Messing & Feinberg, LLP filed the suit on behalf of Chosen 300 Ministries, the Welcome Church, the King’s Jubilee, and Philly Restart. The No. 2 Deputy al-Queda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi was killed in a drone strike in Pakistan.
U.S. military drone struck a militant compound early Monday morning in North Waziristan in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal area. 15 insurgents were killed in the attack.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak Express train this morning near the Holmesburg train station. SEPTA has resumed operation of the Trenton Regional line but Amtrak is operating at reduced speeds between Philadelphia and New York. The victim has not been identified.

The jury in the Philadelphia clergy abuse case submitted another series of questions about the law as it applies to the charges against Monsignor William Lynn and Father James Brennan, who are on trial.
The jury sought clarification on the attempted rape charge against Brennan, and the jury had a number of questions related to the conspiracy and child endangerment charges against Lynn.
The issues in some respects are complicated and technical.

Jurors in the Clergy abuse case deliberated for a full five hours today without conclusion. Today was their first full day of deliberations after first meeting alone Friday afternoon. They sent several requests back to the court room clarifying charges such as the elements of attempted rape and the people who needed to be involved in endangerment or conspiracy. "CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms)," said agency spokesman David Daigle.

Teachers in Neshaminy School District are on strike for the second time this school year. The strike can only last 10 days so the school year can’t extend beyond June 30th. However, seniors were scheduled to start exams today. They will be exempt from finals because of the strike and graduate on schedule.

Pope Benedict XVI is planning to come to Philadelphia in 2015 for a world families conference. Archbishop Charles Chaput, made an unscheduled overseas trip to receive the news directly from the pope that he had selected Philadelphia as the first American city to be the stage for the event which is held by the church every three years. Pope Benedict XVI is planning to come to Philadelphia in 2015 for a world families conference. The Pope announced these plans Sunday at the close of a world families conference in Milan. Archbishop Charles Chaput made a trip to Rome to receive the news from the Pope.
