Congress is outraged over $823,000 in taxpayer money spent by GSA employees and families at a Las Vegas conference. Luxury spas, clowns, bikes, parties were part of where the tax money went. The Justice Dept is investigating.

19-year-old Joshua Burno is in critical condition at University of Penn Hospital after he was shot yesterday morning in his home following a planned, ax-wielding ambush on police. He wanted officers to fire on him, so he made a 911 call threatening to harm his family and waited for police to arrive. Philadelphia is flirting with record warmth today pushing toward 90 degrees. The record high in Philadelphia was 90 degrees, set in 1992. You may need the AC tonight. The low overnight only cools down to 66.
More closures were announced this weekend by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. By July 1st 12 parishes will be merged into 5. Many of the buildings will remain open during a transition period for weddings, funerals and other special services.

During Sunday's Masses today pastors in Northwest Philadelphia and Chester County told their congregations of the Archdiocesan plans to shut down and merge their parishes. Specifically they were in Germantown, Manayunk, and Coatesville.
The parishes marked for closing have seen sharp declines in membership, Mass attendance and baptisms, among other signs of diminished vitality such as population projections, parish finances, and the physical state of its buildings.

On Friday night at SmokeEaters Pub on Frankford Ave in the Northeast, a Benefit to support the families of the two fallen firefighters was being held. Donations were being collected, the bartenders were offering their tips, and a raffle was going to be held for three gift baskets donated from local businesses. All the money collected would go directly to the families of Daniel Sweeney and Robert Neary.

Hundreds of firefighters gathered in Northeast Philadelphia today to say goodbye to Lt. Robert Neary and FF Daniel sweeney. Both firefighters lost his life while fighting a five-alarm warehouse blaze in Kensington on Monday. Firefighters from Texas to Canada came to pay respects to these fallen heroes. Neary, 59, and Daniel Sweeney, 25, were killed by a wall and roof collapse.

Authorities in Camden County and Cumberland County, North Carolina are working together on a murder investigation. The murder of a woman in Fayetteville, NC, may be connected to the murder-suicide of two doctors Wednesday afternoon in Voorhees. Shawna Givens was found dead inside of her Fayetteville apartment. She was romantically involved with the doctor who committed suicide Wednesday afternoon in Voorhees.
