Philadelphia Smartphone Thefts Ranked No.1, NJ Marijuana Dispensary, Haddonfield Body Found

Philadelphia is ranked number one for smartphone thefts, according to a new survey by AAA. So far this year, there have been more than 3,500 cell phone thefts in the city. Mayor Nutter joined state Attorney General Kathleen Kane and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to support a new national initiative called Secure Our Smartphones, or SOS for short. The Chester County District Attorney's Office announced that police have seized 40 pounds of marijuana laced candy from an on-campus apartment at West Chester University. Family and friends are mourning the loss of a teenager in Northeast Philadelphia who died saving the lives of his stepfather and two other passengers when his stepfather became incapcitated behind the wheel. The members of Fleetwood Mac announced this weekend that the band will be canceling all of their upcoming tour dates in Australia and New Zealand, scheduled for November and December. The band explained, "John McVie, one of the co-founding and original members of Fleetwood Mac is now scheduled to be in treatment for cancer during that period of time." Lou Reed, the legendary NY rocker and founder of The Velvet Underground, died today at age 71. After splitting from the Velvet Underground in 1970, he went on a prolific and influential solo career spanning the decades. Reed called Andy Warhol and David Bowie colleagues, contemporaries, and collaborators. The modern rock sound rife with distortion and noise, poetry and the avant-garde owes itself to Reed. Police are questioning a driver today after videos appeared on the internet of a black convertible with the top down driving down the Art Museum steps before speeding off. There were several people on the steps cheering him on and other cars lined up at the top at the time. The incident happened at midnight on Thursday.
