The Burlap and Bean is for me a new place to enjoy live music. Though it has been an established venue for some time, this was my first but not my last visit, as they say in OZ, “there is no place like close to home.” The venue is on Providence Rd. in the Shops at Springton Pointe. Philadelphia police have released a sketch of the man they believe attempted to abduct a 15 year old girl on her way to school on Tuesday morning in Juniata Park. Surveillance video revealed a violent struggle between the two. Police believe this is the same predator who assaulted two other women.

Rising Democratic star Cory Booker has won a special election to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate. The Newark mayor defeated Republican Steve Lonegan in an abbreviated campaign of stark policy and style differences. Booker will become the first black senator from New Jersey. He is filling the seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Residents in Northeast Philadelphia discovered vulgar graffiti sprayed on their homes and cars when they woke up this morning. The vandals targeted homes on Hoffnagle Street, Benson Street, Emerson Street and Solly Avenue in the Rhawnhurt section. Police say that they spray painted racial slurs, sexual images, and swastikas on people's homes, fences, and cars. SEPTA Crashes, NJ Senate Election Day, Burglaries in University City

There were three separate crashes last night involving SEPTA busses. Several people on the busses were hospitalized with injuries and a passenger a car is in critical condition. In all three incidents, SEPTA says cars collided with busses after the cars ran through stop signs or lights.

SEPTA Bus Car Collision, NJ Hunter Zeldin Still Missing, PA Nuclear Plant Violations

Five people were injured after an accident involving a SEPTA bus and a car Tuesday night in Center City at 8th and Vine Streets. A Route 47 bus was traveling southbound on 8th Street when it collided with a car. Three people were taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and two were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital.

A man charged in the death of a Philadelphia motorcycle police officer last July has decided to plead guilty today. 47-year-old John Leck Jr. of Levittown was about to go to trial for the July 8, 2012 murder of Officer Brian Lorenzo. Leck had been driving the wrong way on I-95 when he struck and killed Lorenzo who was on his motorcycle and in uniform after his shift. Cheltenham Township may have to tear down Cedarbrook Middle School and rebuild to fix a mold problem first discovered 10 years ago. For the safety of the children, many instructional spaces have been closed and 700 students may have to find another school while the decision is made to repair or replace the school. 10 of 19 classrooms including the cafeteria have been sealed off and closed due to the mold problem.
