Gosnell Abortion-Murder Trial, First of Spring, Body Spray Hospitalizes Student

Testimony continued today in the trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell, charged with murdering 7 babies born alive. Today a 21 year old woman who was 17 at the time of her abortion, testified Gosnell did an ultrasound and told her she was 24 weeks pregnant, the legal maximum abortion term. However an employee testified the ultrasound showed the baby was actually over 29 weeks. An expert who reviewed photos told the grand jury the aborted baby was over 8 months.

In what hospital officials are calling a "mercy-killing", there was a murder suicide involving a cancer patient and her husband yesterday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. Eighty three year old Mildred Osman was in hospice care on the fourth floor of the hospital. Her husband, 86 year old Elwood Osman entered the hospital, shot her and then himself. Apparently, he could not watch her suffer and could not see himself living without her.

Schuylkill River Car Plunge, Germantown Dog Fighting, Port Richmond Hit and Run Arrest

A car plunges into the Schuylkill River, and police say two Good Samaritans risked their own lives to help. The river crash happened on Kelly Drive near Boat House Row Tuesday afternoon. Police say they don't know what caused the 73-year-old driver to lose control. Divers did eventually pull the driver out of the water but he could not be revived.

Philadelphia police are investigating the report of a rape of a student waiting for a bus this morning in Germantown. The girl was alone waiting for a bus to Imani Education Circle Charter School when a man described in his 20’s wearing a ski mask and hoodie forced her into an alley and assaulted her. She was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children for examination.

The FBI is hoping someone can give them a lead on a $600 million art theft that happened 23 years ago. In 1990 the biggest art heist in history happened at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. They have since learned the art was sold in Philadelphia. There is a $5 million reward for information leading to the recovery of the art. Anyone with information should call 1-800-CALL FBI.

State dog wardens are knocking on doors in Delaware County this week to make sure dog licenses are current. Canvassing will take place in Aston Township, Glenolden, Lansdowne, and surrounding communities. Every dog in Pennsylvania three months or older has to be licensed. Check your lottery tickets. Three winners were sold in the Philadelphia area. On Friday, Mega Millions produced two winners for $250,000 each – one in Philadelphia and one in Delaware County. Saturday a Cash 5 ticket sold in Chester County hit for $225,000. The winning tickets were sold at a Pathmark in Northeast Philly, Westmont Beverage in Collingdale and a Giant in Frazer.

Three Philadelphia schools will play in the NCAA Tournament. Villanova, Temple and LaSalle were all invited to the big dance. Villanova, a nine seed will play North Carolina Friday. Temple will play NC State Friday. LaSalle will play Boise State Wednesday night. Let the office pools begin.

Opening statements and the start of testimony are scheduled for today in one of the most gruesome and disturbing criminal cases in Philadelphia history. Abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell is charged with 7 counts of first degree murder, and 1 count of third degree murder. The prosecution alleges he induced labor and delivered live babies, then killed them by cutting or snipping their spinal cords with scissors.
