Police Wounded, Man Killed in Shootout; SEPTA Crackdown on Fare Jumpers; Don Pardo Dies at 96 |

A Philadelphia police officer is recovering from a bullet wound to the head today after a shootout overnight in the Tacony section that left the suspect dead. Police responded to a call on the 6400 block of Ditman Street for a heavy set man with a gun. As soon as police arrived, he opened fire on them. Police returned fire killing him. The wounded officer was treated and released from Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Philadephia Police have released a photo of a suspect wanted in connection with a fatal shooting outside of a peace concert at the Dell Music Center last Wednesday night. The incident happened outside of the venue located at 33rd Street and Huntingdon Avenue in Fairmount Park in Strawberry Mansion. Philadelphia police are searching for the teenagers on skateboards caught on video punching, kicking and spitting on a ranger in Love Park yesterday. The 35 year old Ranger told the youths they had to stop skateboarding in the park because there were too many children in the area. One of the teenagers knocked the Ranger to the ground then continued to punch and kick him and then spit on him as they walked away. One of the others videoed the entire attack. Philadelphia's Taney Dragons won their Opening Round game of the Little League World Series Friday afternoon 4 – 0 over the Southeast Regional team from Nashville. Star pitcher Mo'ne Davis pitched the complete game shutout with 8 strikeouts and gave up only 2 hits. The team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first with a three-run homerun by Jared Sprague-Lott. The Taney Dragons from Philadelphia take the field this afternoon in Williamsport, one of 16 teams remaining in the Little League World Series. The Dragons are now wearing a uniform with the name, "Mid Atlantic." These Mid-Atlantic Champs, our Taney Dragons throw out the first pitch at 3 o'clock this afternoon against the Southeast regional team from Nashville. The game will be on ESPN. West Goshen Township Supervisor, Robert White was killed yesterday in an accident at the ShopRite on West Chester Pike. White was leaving the store on his lunch break when he was hit by a pickup truck driving in reverse that then drove through the store wall. The female driver is cooperating with the investigation into the accident. 77 year old Robert White was pronounced dead at Chester County Hospital.
