Deadly DC Shooting, Philadelphia Teachers Meet Experts, Parent Complain

The shooting at Washington Navy Yard that killed 13 people, including the gunman is the deadliest at a military base since the Fort Hood rampage in 2009 that left 13 dead and 30 wounded. Originally, there was talk of a second gunman, however by the end of day yesterday, it appeared the shooter, 34 year old Aaron Alexis, a former Navy reservist acted alone. The deadly shooting at the Washington Navy Yard has prompted action at local military facilities. At the Naval Support Activity in Northeast Philadelphia, the security is tight and the atmosphere is solemn. It's common to see guards outside of the support center, but now, they are more equipped and more armed. At the Philadelphia Navy Yard in South Philadelphia, a similar scene is playing out.

At least 12 people were killed and others wounded this morning in Washington D.C. when a gunmen opened fire at the Washington Navy Yard in the heart of the capital. The shooting broke out in Building 197 of the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters. The Navy Yard is supposed to be a heavily secured office building where around 3,000 workers, both military and civilian, go to work everyday. Three wounded are expected to survive. Miss America was crowned Sunday night in Atlantic City and she is Nina Davuluri, Miss New York. Davuluri is the first Indian American to wear the crown. Today she was to visit the scene of the boardwalk fire in Seaside Heights, but the trip was cancelled after learning Governor Christie was sending officials to meet with business owners at the same time.

A person was hospitalized after an accident in the city's Wissinoming section Sunday night. Medics freed a person from an overturned vehicle. The victim was taken to Aria Health Torresdale Campus. There is no word on what caused the crash.

Fire Destroys Seaside Boardwalk, SEPTA Service Cut Plan, Second Suit in Building Collapse

Yesterday's fire on the Seaside Heights boardwalk spread quickly south to north as strong winds pushed the flames consuming the boardwalk and businesses. The fire was brought under control overnight and stopped spreading when firefighters cut a 20 foot wide gap in the brand new boardwalk, just replaced after Superstorm Sandy.

Six-Alarm Blaze at FunTown Amusement Pier in Seaside Heights, NJ

A six-alarm blaze is still burning in Seaside Heights, New Jersey at the the FunTown Amusement Pier as of 9:45pm. It started at around 2:15pm this afternoon near Kohr Brothers Frozen Custard shop, 1800 Boardwalk and quickly grew. The fire is giving off a large plume of smoke and embers. Strong winds are making it difficult to fight. The pier was damaged last year in Hurricane Sandy and underwent repairs with FEMA aid. At this time the fire is still being fought though.

Police are now offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to a suspect who fired 14 rounds - one stray bullet striking a school bus with children on board in Camden Thursday afternoon. There were no injuries and all of the children on the bus are back in the custody of their parents.

This past August 16-year-old Justin Robinson confessed to the October 2012 murder of 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale, pleading guilty to aggravating manslaughter. Today he learned his fate. The teen will serve 17 years in prison, and at least 85 percent before being eligible for parole. According to authorities, last October, Justin, then 15, and his 17-year-old brother, Dante, strangled Autumn for her BMX bike and dumped her body in a recycling bin near their Clayton, NJ, home.
