Citizens Bank Foundation Donates $25,000 to Philadelphia's African American Museum

CBS 3 reports the charitable arm of a well-known local financial institution made a donation to an area museum, underwriting free admissions during Monday's Martin Luther King Day of Service.

The Citizens Bank Foundation presented a giant ceremonial check for $25,000 to the African American Museum in Philadelphia.

The donation will allow 3,000 visitors to enter the museum for free and participate in special activities on Martin Luther King Day.

January 16th is a day we honor one of the most influential people in the nation's history. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for our nation's civil rights more than 50 years ago.

Last year, more than 75,000 volunteers participated in more than 1,200 projects in the Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

Barnes Museum New Marketing Campaign Launches

In advance of the mid-May opening of the Barnes Foundation Museum on the Ben Franklin Parkway, the city of Philadelphia and tourism officials are launching a new arts marketing campaign.

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation's Meryl Levitz say it’s a first-of-its-kind partnership to position Philadelphia among the world’s great art destinations.

Ryan Madson Signs With Cincinnati Reds for $8.5 Million

Ryan Madson will be wearing red next year but it will be for the Cincinnati Reds, not the Philadelphia Phillies. Madson reached an oral agreement for a 1-year contract worth $8.5 million to pitch as their closer next year. He will be replacing Fransico Cordero whose $12 million option was declined, in favor of a $1 million buy out.

It seems as if Fox 29 has had enough of John Bolaris and his antics. Reports from philly.com are that a Fox spokeswoman confirmed, "We mutually agreed that it was time to part ways."

Bolaris has been suspended indefinitely since December 22nd. That came as a direct result from his interview in the December issue of Playboy magazine discussing the March 2010 incident he had involving two young European women on Spring Break in Miami. Philadelphia Named 3rd Worst City For Men by Men's Health Magazine

Men's Health Magazine recently published their annual statistical analysis of the nation's top 100 cities and ranked them in order of "Best" to "Worst" for Men. Well, our City of Brotherly Love did not shake out too well on the list, ending up #98 out of 100, meaning 3rd Worst!

Philadelphia only rose above Birmingham, AL (#99) and Memphis, TN (#100). The Best cities for men were Burlington, VT (1), Madison, WI (2), and Plano, TX (3).

Philadelphia is likely to become the focal point of the NFL - player suit over concussion injuries. A group of former players has filed lawsuits against the NFL alleging that the league is partly responsible for their concussion-related brain injuries. Displaced Catholic School Teachers May Apply for Unemployment Benefits

With the Philadelphia Archdiocese announcement that 45 elementary schools would close sent shock waves through teaching staffs at affected schools. The archdiocese plan to consolidate with other schools to create regional schools means that 1,700 teachers at more than 80 schools are affected. Staff at all affected schools will have to reapply for positions at the new regional schools, Superintendent Mary Rochford said.

The decision to close 49 schools in the Philadelphia Archdiocese triggered a swell of reaction. Untouched schools felt relief while those affected by closures ranged from deep disappointment to outrage.
