Three Dead in West Caln Fire; Northeast Extension Reopens; Brush Fires in Burlington County

Three women were found dead after a fire in West Caln Township in Chester County this afternoon. It happened shortly after 12 noon on the 300 block of Hill Road. Two adults and two children escaped the blaze in the double wide trailer home. The house was completely destroyed by the flames. All seven people in the home were family members. Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire but they do not consider it suspicious. The names of the victims have not been released.Read More

Lincoln Drive was a mess during rush hour this morning. One person was rushed to the hospital following an accident that forced the southbound side of the busy Philadelphia roadway to shut down during the busiest time of the day. Lincoln Drive was closed near Gypsy Lane after two cars collided sending one person to Einstein Medical Center.

An autopsy was scheduled Monday for a man whose body was found by a child who was playing along the banks of the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey. Police say a child made the discovery around 3 p.m. Sunday while playing in the area of 28th Street and Adams Avenue. Investigators are trying to positively identify the body, described as a Hispanic man in his 40s. Authorities are not sure how the man died or how long he had been in the water. A woman was shot and killed in North Philadelphia on Saturday night. It happened before 9 p.m. on 5th Street between Susquehanna Avenue. and Diamond Street. The woman in her 40's was shot in her head and neck. She was rushed to Temple University Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Police are looking for the shooter, although it is believed that it is a man that was living with the victim. The investigation is ongoing.

Baltimore Prosecutor Files Charges Against 6 Police Officers in Freddie Gray Case

Baltimore's top prosecutor announced charges on Friday, ranging from murder to assault, against the officers involved in the arrest and transport of Freddie Gray last month. State Attorney Marilyn Mosby's decision came a day after the police department handed over its internal review of the April 12th arrest that left Gray dead from a spinal injury. Philadelphia Police have arrested a New Jersey man for the theft and burglary of dozens of guitars and other musical equipment from storage lockers in Port Richmond in March. Police have charged 34-year-old Jason Mackenzie of Berlin, NJ, with burglary and other offenses. He is accused, along with two accomplices, of cutting a hole in the roof of the Public Store on Castor Ave on the night of March 25th and taking 35 guitars, 10 amplifiers, electronics, vinyl records and children's toys... Protesters organized a demonstration at Philadelphia's City Hall to draw parallels between the death of a man shot during a traffic stop and a death in police custody that sparked riots in Baltimore. Police say the rally ended around 11:30 last night. Organizers of the "Philly is Baltimore" Demonstration compare the December shooting death of Brandon Tate-Brown in Philadelphia to the April 19th death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore.

Fifty years ago today, young people led by then NAACP President Cecil B. Moore began an act of defiance that opened the gates of Girard College to students of color. The protests began in the wee hours of May 1, 1965. They stopped marching when the city sued to admit black students, and celebrated three years later when the school welcomed its first black students. The Freedom Fighters will spend Friday morning re-enacting that historic march at Girard College.
