Have you heard the one about the University of Pennsylvania orthopedic surgeon who does fat jokes about overweight patients? True story. Doctor John Kelly writes a humor column and threw some jokes in that got some hot water with Penn and obesity bias advocates. Dr. Kelly intended no harm when he quipped, "You should worry about performing surgery on the supersized if there is a comma in your patient's body weight." Or if a patient "wears a wristwatch on his finger," or "has more chins than... Read More

Occupy Wall Street, the nearly 6-week-old social protest in Manhattan has inspired campaigns, headlines and spoofs that often have nothing to do with income inequality or challenging corporate overlords: Occupy the NBA, Occupy The Bar, Occupy Sesame Street, and Occupy the Bathroom are just a few.

That meets with mixed feelings from the occupiers camping out in lower Manhattan. Some protesters are concerned that frivolous uses could dilute their serious message.

Philadelphia School District - which had earlier announced a $629 million budget gap - must make an additional $39 million in reductions.

Without further concessions from district unions, Chief... Read More

The cause of Amy Winehouse's sudden death earlier this summer has now been released. Coroner Suzanne Greenaway concluded it was "death by misadventure," saying the singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning. "The unintended consequence of such potentially fatal levels (of alcohol) was her sudden and unexpected death," Greenaway said.

Blood and urine samples indicated Winehouse had consumed a "very large quantity of alcohol" prior to her death. The level of alcohol in her blood... Read More

It is snowing in other parts of the country and local meteorologists have already started mentioning the four letter S word in Philadelphia forecasts. That's close enough for Philadelphia's TV weather folks to start warning us that snow MAY be coming soon.

The first snow flakes of the season may be spotted this weekend in... Read More
