Today a preliminary hearing is underway for defendants in connection with "pay to play" schemes at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Accused in the schemes include the former CEO, Joseph Brimmeier, former Turnpike Commissioner Mitchell Rubin, and former longtime Democratic state Senate leader Robert Mellow who is currently in prison after pleading guilty in a federal corruption case.

The South African presidency says the health condition of Nelson Mandela has become critical. The president had visited Mandela on Sunday evening and was informed by the medical team that Mandela's condition had become critical in the past 24 hours. Mandela, who became South Africa's first black president after the end of apartheid in 1994, was hospitalized for what the government said was a recurring lung infection.

Among them, Germantown High School will close after 99 years. The closings are a result of a $304 million budget shortfall.

Temple Tuition Up, Philadelphia Swimming Pools, Delco Man Faces Child Porn Charges

Tuition will be increasing for Temple University students this Fall. The university's Board of Trustees voted Thursday to increase tuition by 2.8 percent for the 2013-2014 school year. Tuition rates were frozen this past school year. In addition, the trustees increased the mandatory student fee. The student fee has been frozen for the last four years. The university says the fee increase is in response to rising demand for student services.

Philadelphia boxer Bernard Hopkins has won the 2013 John Wanamaker Athletic Award. The award is presented annually "to the athlete, team or organization that has done the most to reflect credit upon Philadelphia" Hopkins joins other athletes such as Julius Erving, Chuck Bednarick, Mike Schmidt, and Roy Halladay. The 48-year-old is still fighting today, about to defend his title against against Sergay Kovalev.

Wildwood Free Beach concert announced for August, 24th,2013

On Saturday, Aug 24th Fuel, Hoobastank, Lit, and Alien Ant Farm will be playing a free concert on the Wildwood beach. This concert is paired up with the Philadelphia Soul Summer Slam, Coors Light and Svedka Vodka.

Tickets will become available on July 1st. The concert will be playing for at least 10, 000 to 14,000 people.
