Friday was the first day of the inaugural Firefly Music Festival. The festival is being held at The Woodlands which is an 87-acre tract of grassy areas between wooded tree lines across Route 1 from the Dover International Speedway in Delaware. This centrally locates it to many of the Mid-Atlantic's large cities including New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC. More than 70 people were shot leaving twelve people dead in a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado during a midnight showing of the new Batman movie. Reaction is global. Theatres in Paris, France will not debut the move as scheduled and New York has added extra security to theatres playing the Batman movie. Twelve people are confirmed dead after a gunman opened fire in a movie theatre in Aurora, Colorado during a midnight showing of the new Batman movie. Eyewitness reports say two people entered the theatre from an emergency exit after the movie began. A smoke bomb was released and gunfire started. 50 people were injured. 10 were killed in the theatre. 2 more died in area hospitals. Police have a suspect.

The former chairman of the Penn State board of trustees resigned on Thursday, becoming the first board member to do so in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.
Steve Garban was harshly criticized over his handling of the crisis that engulfed Penn State after Sandusky's arrest last November, and he faced persistent calls from alumni and fellow board members to step down.

Camden County is preparing to begin enforcement of a ban on smoking in public parks. The ordinance took effect 3 years ago but not enforced until now. Signs are in the parks notifying visitors that it is Tobacco Free. Violators will be warned first and then $50 for smoking. In addition to clearing the air, eliminating discarded cigarette butts from the ground also helps keep the park clean.

Breakwater, a soulful funk band from Philadelphia, emerged onto the music scene in 1978. They played locally and cranked out covers and original cuts at block parties, bars, and other venues. This upcoming Wednesday, July 25th, Frank Ocean will be performing at Union Transfer in Philadelphia. The R&B artist released the digital version of his new album Channel Orange on July 10th and released the physical copy on July 17th.

Philadelphia Police are offering a $10,000 reward to help lead to the suspect in the attempted abduction of a 10 year old girl on Tuesday. Police released a video of the attack which happened on the 3400 block of Lee Street. The video shows the girl kicking, screaming and fighting until the attacker flees down Porter Street in a white sedan. Anyone with information should contact police.

Philadelphia Police are investigating an apparent murder suicide Wednesday night. Police were called out to an apartment building on the 3600 block of Gateway Drive at about 2 Wednesday afternoon after receiving a call to check on the well being of the resident who had not shown up for work. When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old Hispanic man and a Hispanic woman in her twenties, both with a gunshot wound to the head.

Wawa has now expanded way down south to Florida. Today, Florida Governor Rick Scott and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer joined Wawa executives Howard Stoeckel and Chris Gheysens at the opening of their first store in Orlando. The Philadelphia based convenience chain plans to open another Orlando store and two in nearby Kissimmee in the coming weeks with another in Tampa later. Hopefully they'll be able to satisfy Florida's appetite for soda, ice, snacks, cigarettes, and of course hoagies.
