Governor Tom Corbett has signed a disaster emergency proclamation Wednesday after a winter storm left hundreds of thousands without power in Pennsylvania. At a press briefing, Gov. Corbett said 849,000 customers lost power in the state. The Governor says the disaster emergency proclamation is to assist state and local authorities in responding to the winter storm. Gov. Last night's ice storm lead to widespread power outages, downed trees, traffic lights out, and closed roads today. A record number of people lost power across the area, upwards of 700,000. PECO officials warn that it may take a few days to get everyone's service back online. PECO has requested the help of 500 additional line crews from outside the region to assist with the work. The state senate has okayed the governor’s two nominations to the School Reform Commission. The state senate approved the nominations of City Councilman Bill Green to be SRC chair, and Farah Jimenez to be an SRC member. There was no senate hearing on the nominations, and Democratic Philadelphia senator Vincent Hughes objected to the lack of debate. 13 SRC nominations have come before the senate, and only four have had hearings.

New Jersey State Police say that divers have recovered a body from a frozen lake in Woodland Township today. The body is believed to be the missing ATV rider that fell through the ice on Sunday. 25-year-old Philip Raimondo of Medford was riding his ATV near Route 70 in rural Woodland Township, Burlington County when he broke through an ice-covered waterway around 5:15pm on Sunday. Search efforts were suspended yesterday because of the weather. Police are still investigating.

Another woman was shot and killed in a purse snatching in Philadelphia this weekend. Twenty nine year old Melissa Thomas was leaving a West Philly bar at 53rd and Market when she and a girlfriend were approached by two men in hoodies. As the friend turned over the purse, Thomas was shot twice in the chest and died at the scene. Her friend was shot while running away.
