Private Money for Ackerman Questioned

Arlene Ackerman is out, but the story is far from over. $405,000 of her $905,000 payoff came from anonymous private donations. The private donations are legal and they helped the city taxpayers who only footed $500,000 of the settlement. However transparency watchdogs want to know who made the donations. Zack Stalberg, President of the government watchdog group, The Committee of Seventy, has called on officials to release the donors' names.

Motown songwriter Nick Ashford died on Monday of throat cancer in a New York hospital. Ashford, along with wife Valerie Simpson helped set the gold standard for R&B duets, both as songwriters and performers. Abercrombie and Fitch Pays Jersey Shore Cast to Not Wear its Clothing

Teen clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has offered to pay cast members from MTV's "Jersey Shore" to stop wearing its clothes. In a press release the company said it is "deeply concerned" that Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino "could cause significant damage" to the brand's "aspirational nature."

Philadelphia radio station WYSP 94.1 FM announced that the station's rock format will be signing off and be replaced by the staff and content currently on sister sports talk station WIP 610 AM.

PSSA Cheating Investigated in 13 Philly Schools

The Philadelphia School District's accountability office said that they had "many concerns" about the data analysis used by the state to flag 28 district schools for possible 2009 PSSA cheating. The district will cooperate with the state and will help gather forensic analyses of the 2010 and 2011 PSSA's. Sometime after Sunday services, thieves entered St. Simon the Cyrenian Church at 22nd and Reed Streets in the city's Point Breeze section and stole several sacred items, including gold crosses, chalices, candle holders, bells and collection plates.
