Philadelphia police have made an arrest in the Washington Square shooting May 10th. Ali Shaffiat was picked up and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly firing shots from his car at another vehicle driven by a 28 year old female while driving on Broad Street near Lombard. The two women and 4 month old niece in the car struck by bullets were not injured.

An overnight flight from Philadelphia to London had to return to Philly because of a drunk, unruly passenger. The US Airways flight took off about 10:20 last night and about an hour into the flight decided to return when a passenger, apparently very drunk, was accosting and groping women on the flight. He was arrested in Philly and the flight took off again without him.

Clay Aiken Suspends Campaign, School Bus Attack Lawsuit, Mayfair Tire Slasher Probation

Clay Aiken, the former American Idol finalist, has suspended his campaign for Congress because his opponent died suddenly at his home. Keith Crisco was 71 years old and in a very close race with Aiken in a North Carolina democratic primary. Aiken's lead was about 400 votes. Crisco apparently fell at home in Asheboro.

Former Phillie, Mitch Williams was ejected from a baseball game for 10 year olds on Saturday. Williams coaches his son’s team playing in a Ripken Baseball tournament in Aberdeen, Maryland. The Wild Thing disagreed with several calls by the umpire and after a profanity lace argument, Mitch Williams was tossed.

A Conshohocken Dance instructor is under arrest on charges of statutory rape of a 15 year old student. Twenty eight year old Frank Laurenzi who owns "Urban Elegance Dance Club" on Fayette Street met the alleged victim while teaching at "LeRoux School of Dance" in Limerick Township when she was 10 years old. Laurenzi faces rape and child pornography charges.

Educators in the Philadelphia School District will likely be charged in a cheating scandal accusing teachers and at least one principal of doctoring state tests. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office is acting on the criminal investigation that does not appear to involve students, just the educators.

The Philadelphia Zoo is giving visitors a closer look at the big cats with a new overhead trail system that lets the cats cross overhead contained only by a mesh netting fence. The new $2.3 million addition gives the tigers, lions, jaguars, pumas and snow leopards unprecedented access to more areas, smells and views in the zoo. Thieves took over a Philadelphia gas station, locked the attendant in the bathroom and sold gas to customers at a discount for three hours yesterday. It was the Hess station on Island Avenue near the airport. About 1 am three men, one wearing a Hess shirt, emptied the cash register, assaulted the attendant and took cash from customers. Police believe the same crew robbed a Hess on Passyunk last week.

Six people were injured aboard a US Airways flight from Philadelphia to Orlando yesterday. The plane hit severe turbulence for about 10 seconds making the plane plummet and rock side to side injuring 4 passengers and 2 flight attendants. The pilot returned the plane to Philadelphia where 5 were taken to hospitals.
