Annual Polar Bear plunges on New Year's Day have become more popular as fundraisers in recent years. Yesterday, the 23rd annual Polar Bear plunge in Atlantic City attracted hundreds of people to strip down and take the plunge into water temperatures in the 40's. Organizers dispute the notion that exposure to extreme elements makes you susceptible to colds. The event raises thousands of dollars for the Multiple Sclerosis Association.

If you like fireworks, you have two opportunities to ring in the new year with a colorful blast at Penn's Landing over the Delaware River. The first show is at 6 pm tonight. Then they re-load and do it again at midnight. The displays will take place just south of the Ben Franklin Bridge and will be visible for miles anywhere along the banks of the Delaware.

The Eagles won the NFC East last night with a hard fought victory over the Dallas Cowboys. After last year's 4-12 last place finish, most Eagles fans, including this one, hoped for 6 maybe 8 wins under new coach Chip Kelly. But these Eagles have surprised everyone, except maybe themselves. The Birds are a 2 point favorite Saturday night playoff game at home against the Saints. And once you make the playoffs, anything is possible.

Blue Route Fatality, Lynn Conviction Overturned, South Philly Shootings Decline

A fatal accident shut down the Blue Route early this morning. The wreck on the Southbound side of 476 near St. Davids and Villanova happened at about 2 am ejecting one person from the vehicle. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The Blue Route re-opened after a 5 hour closure at about 7:30 this morning.

Delaney Brown, the eight year old West Reading girl with leukemia has died. Laney passed away quietly on Christmas morning with her family by her side. This past Saturday she received her Christmas wish when thousands of people came out to sing carols to her. Before she died Delaney also got to do a video chat with Taylor Swift.

It will be a wet Christmas in Frankford thanks to a water main break at Frankford and Torresdale Avenues. The break dumped 23 million gallons of water into the streets and neighboring businesses. Repairs are expected to take months, but there were no injuries, the leak has been fixed and water pressure has been restored this Christmas Eve to local residents and businesses.

The Eagles put on a show last night on both sides of the ball in a lopsided 54-11 victory over a good team, the Chicago Bears. Next up, Dallas. The winner of that game next Sunday night will win the NFC East and advance to the playoffs. The loser is eliminated from playoffs. The jury returned a partial verdict Thursday afternoon in the case of Dorothy June Brown, the founder of four charter schools. The fraud trial about phantom board members, fabricated documents, forged signatures and high test scores has been going on for five weeks. The jury is undecided on 76 year old Brown and her role in a cover up. However two co-defendants were acquitted of conspiracy and obstruction. The judge has asked the jury to resume deliberations on Brown.

The Secret Service is investigating a major breach in credit and debit card security at 1,800 Target department stores nationwide. Beginning Black Friday through December 15th, a malware collected credit card information at about 40,000 checkouts in stores across the country. Authorities believe up to 40 million accounts may be affected as information was stolen from the magnetic strips on cards.
