New Jersey governor Chris Christie has proposed a $1 trillion overhaul of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The governor called for reduced Social Security benefits for seniors earning more than $80,000, and ending payments entirely for those making $200,000 or more, as well as an increase in the retirement age from 67 to 69.

The school board is meeting today to decide the fate of a New Jersey teacher who had her third grade class write get well letters to convicted cop-killer, Mumia Abu Jamal. Marilyn Zuniga was suspended from Forest Street Elementary School in Orange, New Jersey pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival was a big success yesterday. According to organizers 40,000 people came out to chow down on the offerings of 50 different food trucks and other vendors along Main Street. Legendary Philadelphia sports journalist Stan Hochman has died. Hochman has been the face of Philadelphia sports-writing for the last 55 years. He was there for every big story from the Eagles' 1960 NFL championship to the 1964 Phillies collapse to the Ali-Frazier fights to the Flyers' Stanley Cup parades. He even had a cameo appearance in the "Rocky" movie. Stan Hochman was 86.

Police in Montgomery County are investigating a double shooting after two men were found with gunshot wounds in a gas station parking lot Monday night. Two wounded victims were found in the parking lot of a Lukoil gas station on the 600 block of Ridge Avenue in Conshohocken around 9:00 last night. The victims were transported to Mercy Suburban Hospital. Police are trying to determine if the shooting occurred there or at another location.

A woman allegedly abducted from a parking garage near Jewelers Row is recovering from injuries she sustained during her ordeal. The 53 year old victim says she was abducted Saturday night by three men in a van who bound her wrists, ankles, and shot her with a Taser. She says they wanted the access codes to the safe where she worked which she did not know. The eventually dropped her off in a Darby Borough cemetery.

A federal civil jury in Philadelphia has awarded a University of Pennsylvania doctoral candidate $80,000 for his arrest in 2011 by city police while observing an Occupy Philadelphia protest for his dissertation. Swarthmore College is trying to find out who painted the words "Rape Haven" on the front of a fraternity house there. The vandalism was reported Tuesday at the Delta Upsilon fraternity on campus. Asked if Swarthmore is investigating any sexual assault cases at the fraternity, the college declined to comment, referencing Federal privacy laws.
