Pennsylvania SPCA officers rescued a dog who was choking and tied to a fence in North Philadelphia on Tuesday. The brown and white pitbull was tied using a short cable and electrical tape to a chain link fence surrounding the tennis courts in Awbury Park. The officers have renamed the dog Venus and it is being treated at the PSPCA's Shelter Hospital. There is a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible of the abandonment. Read More

Two men have been arrested for the deaths of an elderly couple found murdered Thursday morning in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. Investigators say that 26-year-old Terry Ballard and 19-year-old Justen Smith have confessed to suffocating the couple. Ballard and Smith had been hired to do odd jobs at the home of 79-year-old Rufus Perry and 66-year-old Gladys Perry. Ballard's grandmother was friends with the couple. Authorities have found a body in the water off the Jersey Coast not far from where a swimmer went missing on Friday. A fisherman made the discovery at 7:30 am on Saturday near Island Beach State Park. On Friday at Noon, 25-year-old Nicholas Guilhote of France and some friends were swimming in the ocean in Island Beach State Park just south of Seaside Park, NJ when he went missing. A man went missing after swimming off the coast in Island Beach State Park south of Seaside Park, NJ Friday afternoon. The 25-year-old was a French tourist and reportedly had not had experience swimming the in ocean before. The conditions were rough at the time and there were no lifeguards on duty on that stretch of beach. Coast Guard and local crews are searching by boat and helicopter or the missing man. A passenger plane carrying 295 people on it's way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur has crashed in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border. Ukrainian officials have said that Malaysian Flight 17 was at its cruising altitude of 33,000 feet when it was hit by a surface-to-air missile. The burning wreckage, including bodies and luggage, is strewn over a wide area near the village of Hrabove in eastern Ukraine. The suspect in the murder of 23-year-old Art Institute graduate Laura Araujo has now officially been charged with her death. 23-year-old Jeremiah Jakson is accused of beating and strangling the young women before stuffing her body in a duffel bag and dumping it along with her belongings in a empty North Philadelphia lot. Philadelphia police have identified the body of the woman found dead and stuffed inside a duffel bag in North Philadelphia early Monday morning. 23-year-old Laura Araujo's cause of death has been listed as homicide by blunt force trauma and strangulation. Philadelphia police are investigating the discovery of a body of a women found inside a duffel bag early this morning in North Philadelphia. A man who was trash picking found the body on the 2200 block of N. 3rd Street between Susquehanna Avenue and Dauphin Street at around 5:30 a.m. in a lot next to an abandoned building. Drummer Tommy Ramone, the last surviving original member of New York punk back The Ramones, has passed away at age 65. The band announced the news via their Twitter account early Saturday morning. He was the last living of the four original members. Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy founded the iconic band in 1974.

A Camden, NJ, man was found guilty today of all charges in the 2012 rape of a 12-year-old girl and murder of her younger brother. It happened on September 12th, 2012 when the then 31-year-old Osvaldo Rivera broke into the home on Ware Street. The 12-year-old was on the couch. He slashed her throat as he raped her.
