Over 100 residents and hotel guests were evacuated early this morning because of a 4-alarm fire in Old City. The fire started in a building near 3rd and Chestnut around 3 a.m. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows and roof. The building has retail/restaurant space at street level and apartments above. About 160 people were evacuated including neighboring buildings such as the Best Western Independence Park Hotel. A New Jersey man has been arrested after a meth lab was discovered in his Atlantic City hotel room following a fire on Wednesday morning. 49-year-old Michael Pillar of Whiting has been charged with maintaining a controlled dangerous substance production facility, possession of methamphetamine and criminal mischief. A former student opened fire at a South Florida high school on Wednesday afternoon killing at least 17 people. It happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, about 45 miles north of Miami. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel says 19-year-old suspect Nikolaus Cruz is in custody. Pennsylvania authorities announced a major multi-million dollar drug bust and two arrests in Philadelphia's Feltonville neighborhood. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro said that 24-year-old Cesar Guzman and 30-year-old Duagermy Sanchez-Rosario, both of the 4300 block of North 4th Street, were arrested on Sunday night. The LOVE statue will return to LOVE Park/JFK Plaza in Center City Philadelphia tomorrow, Tuesday February 13th, just in time for Valentine's Day. It was removed a year ago as the park underwent renovations. The LOVE sculpture itself was also restored and repainted with it's original colors (red, green, and purple). SEPTA has announced that as of 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon they have SOLD OUT of all 50,000 special Independence Passes for travel on Regional Rail to and from the Eagles' Super Bowl parade on Thursday. Fans lined up at stations as early as 3 - 4 a.m. to purchase a pass. Weekly and Monthly transpasses as well as prepaid senior/reduced fares will also be accepted.
