We are currently in the middle of the latest winter storm to dump significant snow on the area and this one has helped make history. After this morning's accumulations a 130-year-old record was broken. For the first time in history there have been four snowfalls over 6+ inches in one season. This season has also moved up into the top 5 all time snowiest winters at 53.1". Philadelphia-based Comcast is expected to announce Thursday that it has reached an agreement to buy Time Warner Cable for $44.2 billion in stock or around $159 per share.
Currently, Comcast has around 22 million subscribers or 21 percent of the country's pay-TV homes. The acquisition would increase that customer base to 33 million subscribers or 33 percent, solidifying Comcast's spot as the top provider of cable television services.

In anticipation of the major winter storm bearing down on our area, a snow emergency will go into effect as of 8pm on Wednesday night in the City of Philadelphia. This means that if you have parked your vehicle along those designated routes you must move your car or it will be towed. If your car has been towed, call 215-686-SNOW for its location. The Phillies and Comcast announced today that two former players from the 2008 World Series Championship team will be coming back to Philadelphia. Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs will be joining the television broadcast team of Tom McCarthy and Gregg Murphy. Moyer played 26 seasons in the Majors earning 269 wins as a pitcher. The New Jersey Attorney General's Office has filed paperwork seeking to remove Trenton's mayor from office following his conviction of corruption last week. The request was filed Monday afternoon with the state Superior Court asking that Tony Mack be removed from of office, stripped of his pension and be barred from holding elected office in the future. Trenton Mayor Tony Mack and his brother Ralphiel have been found guilty in federal court in a plot to accept payments in exchange for approvals to develop a downtown parking garage. Tony Mack was convicted of official extortion conspiracy, attempted extortion, accepting bribes, mail fraud and wire fraud. Former NFL defensive lineman Hugh Douglas will plead no contest in a misdemeanor assault case in Connecticut. He is accused of assaulting his girlfriend at a Hotel in Hartford. Douglas' lawyer Corey Brinson says he expects his client to to plead no contest to a breach of peace charge in court on Monday in order to avoid a jail sentence. Villanova University announced that electricity and heat have been restored to Main Campus, West Campus, and the Athletics Complex. Classes will resume on Monday, February 10th. Friday night's Men's Basketball game against Seton Hall will be played as scheduled. Yesterday, school officials were left to cancel classes for the rest of the week as a result of campus-wide outages and no timeframe for repairs. Last night's ice storm lead to widespread power outages, downed trees, traffic lights out, and closed roads today. A record number of people lost power across the area, upwards of 700,000. PECO officials warn that it may take a few days to get everyone's service back online. PECO has requested the help of 500 additional line crews from outside the region to assist with the work. New Jersey State Police say that divers have recovered a body from a frozen lake in Woodland Township today. The body is believed to be the missing ATV rider that fell through the ice on Sunday. 25-year-old Philip Raimondo of Medford was riding his ATV near Route 70 in rural Woodland Township, Burlington County when he broke through an ice-covered waterway around 5:15pm on Sunday. Search efforts were suspended yesterday because of the weather. Police are still investigating.
