Philadelphia City Council passed a bill today that would decriminalize possession of a small amount of marijuana. The vote split down party lines with the 13 Democrats voting yes and 3 Republicans voting no. The bill has the necessary 12 votes to override any possible veto from Mayor Nutter. Swarms of bees were buzzing around a Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange this morning and into the afternoon causing quite a ruckus. The honey bees swarmed the light fixtures near Lane 9 at the Valley Forge interchange Exit 328 in King of Prussia. Authorities were forced to redirect traffic and change those cash tolls to EZ-Pass only. If the honey bees continue to cause a disturbance they will be removed and relocated. As a protected 'pollinator' species, they cannot just be killed.Read More |

Decontamination crews were on hand in Hatboro, Montgomery County Tuesday to clean the apartment of a man accused of sending the deadly poison ricin to a romantic rival. A Burlington County man is under arrest and has been charged with killing his own mother. 44-year-old Herbert Rowlette is accused of killing his 71-year-old mother Maryanne Rowlette on Sunday, Father's Day. Police were called to their Washington Boulevard home at 5:40 p.m. in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township. Herbert Rowlette made the call himself to report a homicide had occurred. The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on the airplane crash that killed Lewis Katz and 6 others outside Boston on May 31st. The report indicated that the flight crew did not perform a flight control check prior to taking off. It also indicated that there may have been a problem with the mechanical gust lock system. One defendant entered a guilty plea today in the murder case of an off-duty police officer killed during a robbery. A Bensalem police officer was stabbed this afternoon while attempting to arrest an escaped prisoner in Bensalem, Bucks County. Police were notified of the escape at around 12:50 pm. The low risk prisoner went missing from a work release type program in Doylestown.
