A former Delaware County teacher has died from his injuries after being shot over the weekend by his neighbor. 44-year-old Joseph Iavarone was shot in the head by 49-year-old John Ballas on the 100 block of Bishop Drive in Chester Heights early Sunday morning, 5/26. Iavarone died on Monday. He had been a teacher at Garnet Valley Middle School for 20 years and just recently resigned. Philadelphia Phillies centerfielder Odubel Herrera was arrested on Monday night, 5/27, for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at an Atlantic City hotel and casino. It happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on the 600 block of Huron Avenue. Atlantic City police responded to a report of a domestic violence incident. Four people have been injured after a woman drove through the front of a South Philadelphia store early Monday afternoon. It happened at the Rainbow shop on the 2400 block of South 24th Street. A 71-year-old woman was trying to park her 2018 Kia Sportage SUV. She accidentally hit the accelerator and went forward. Ten people were shot and injured outside of Ramoneros Liquor and Bar in Trenton, NJ, early on Saturday morning, 5/25. It happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Brunswick Avenue and Middle Rose Street. Five women and five men were shot when two suspects opened fire on a crowd from a dark-colored SUV. A smoking and vaping ban is in effect on all New Jersey beaches this summer. The law was passed and signed by Governor Phil Murphy last year. It is $250 for a first violation, $500 for a second violation, and $1,000 for each subsequent violation. A fire broke out down the Jersey shore, ruining one family's Memorial Day weekend before it started. It happened just before 11 p.m. on the 5600 block of Central Avenue in Sea Isle City. The family had just arrived when their SUV caught fire in the driveway. It then quickly spread to the home. Neighboring houses were evacuated as a precaution.
