Perseid Meteor Showers set to light up Philadelphia skies. Aug. 10-13

Each August as the Earth's annual orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids. Named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus, this meteor shower will peak this weekend through August 13th.

It is not uncommon to see up to 60 meteors an hour with the Perseids. The moon is in a waxing crescent phase. It will also be setting early in the evening.Read More

Beloved singer, performer, TV star, and recording artist, well known for her hit "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" but mostly for her career and life with singer Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme passed away tonight at age 84. She died at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas following a brief, undisclosed illness. Gorme was born August 16th, 1928 in the Bronx in a Sephardic Jewish home. Investigators have found some forensic evidence in the search for a 7-month-old boy kidnapped from an Upper Darby home on Sunday. The boy was taken in the early hours on Sunday by the mother's boyfriend while they were visiting family. The boyfriend, Ummad Rushdi, was arrested earlier this week after telling a friend that he shook the crying baby to death and then buried him. NJ Stay-Right Law Penalties Increased; Three Children removed from 'deplorable' conditions

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed into a law a bill that raises penalties for motorists who violate the state's keep-right law. The new fines have increased from $50 and $200 to between $100 and $300. The state is trying to crackdown on those who hog the left lane. Motorists are required to stay in the right lane unless passing slower traffic. The bill's sponsors said that staying in the left creates a dangerous situation.

New Jersey teen Justin Robinson has plead guilty today to luring Autumn Pasquale into his home and killing her last fall in Clayton, NJ. Last October, 12-year-old Autumn was riding her BMX bike to a friend's house when Robinson, then 15, and his then 17-year-old brother, Dante, lured her into their home with the promise of bike parts. They stole her bike and strangled her to death. Her body was found in a recycling bin near their home 2 days later. Justin entered his plea as an adult.... Read More

New charges have been filed in an unrelated case against the Lancaster man involved in the fatal crash on Roosevelt Blvd that killed a woman and her three sons. These new charges stem from an incident a week before the deadly drag racing crash. A woman called police in Manheim Township, Lancaster County and reported on a man waving a badge and driving recklessly. She gave them a license plate that traces to 23-year-old Khusen Akhmedov. In 2010, Brianna Hawk and Kayla Martinez, from Easton Area School District (PA), challenged their school when they were told they couldn't wear the rubber "I (heart) Boobies!" bracelets in support of breast cancer. According to many reports, Philadelphia Phillies left-hand relief pitcher Antonio Bastardo has accepted a 50-game suspension for a violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Agreement. He is one of a number players who are taking the discipline from MLB today in connection with the Miami-area firm Biogensis of America, anti-aging clinic. They are accused of receiving performance-enhancing substances from Biogenesis.
