Thousands attended the funeral this morning of a Spring Garden man who was shot and killed last week in an attempted car jacking near his home. The mass was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City for 38-year-old Gerard Grandzol, a husband and father of two young daughters. One person was killed and two were injured in a fire at a home in Wilmington last night. It happened around 11:10 p.m. Monday on the 100 block of West 37th Street. Flames were coming from the front door when firefighters arrived. Eventually they were able to enter the house and find a man trapped inside. He was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man had run back into the home to save his wife of more than 30 years. She had jumped out of a second story window... Read More |

The Philadelphia area was overcome by a swarm of insects this evening. Citizens took to Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit to report the unusual amount of flying bugs in their neighborhoods. Reports came from South Philly, Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Center City, Old City, Montgomery County, Bucks County, South Jersey and more. They were described as gnats or maybe flying ants. Former Philadelphia Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos will have emergency open heart surgery after an aortic aneurysm was discovered during a physical following his recent trade to the New Orleans Saints. Saints team doctor Dr. John Amoss found the pre-existing condition while performing a team physical on the 37-year-old Dorenbos. A Philadelphia Police officer has been suspended for 30-days with the intent to dismiss following a fatal officer-involved shooting in June. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross announced on Thursday that after a three-month investigation Officer Ryan Pownall would be dismissed.
