Philadelphia Eagles' Head Coach Chip Kelly announced that Michael Vick will be the team's starting quarterback when the season opens September 9th versus the Washington Redskins. A 56-foot fishing boat ran aground near Caesar's Pier in Atlantic City. The boat named Jessica Heather hit the beach after midnight near Missouri Ave. Some reports are that the captain apparently fell asleep while it was in autopilot. A 100-yard perimeter was setup around the boat, which had become a curiosity throughout the day among beach goers. The FBI raided the Philadelphia Sheriff's offices this morning. Agents arrived at the offices at 100 S. Broad around 9:00 am and served a subpoena and executive search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation begun in previous administrations. Agents were seen leaving the building with files and boxed of paperwork. No one was arrested and the Sheriff's department was fully cooperative. A Philadelphia police officer is in critical condition after being shot in the stomach this morning following a chase that ended in a corner store. The shooting happened around 11:55 am near 4th and Annsbury Streets in the Feltonville section. The incident began when the suspect was pulled over for a broken taillight near 5th Street and Allegheny Avenue. "Ocean's 16" is what a group of 16 Ocean County, NJ employees are calling themselves after the popular Ocean's Eleven movie. The group of 16 public employees near the Jersey shore hold one of three winning tickets from last week's $448 million Powerball jackpot. Each August as the Earth's annual orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids. Named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus, this meteor shower will peak this weekend through August 13th.
It is not uncommon to see up to 60 meteors an hour with the Perseids. The moon is in a waxing crescent phase. It will also be setting early in the evening.Read More |

Beloved singer, performer, TV star, and recording artist, well known for her hit "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" but mostly for her career and life with singer Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme passed away tonight at age 84. She died at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas following a brief, undisclosed illness. Gorme was born August 16th, 1928 in the Bronx in a Sephardic Jewish home. Investigators have found some forensic evidence in the search for a 7-month-old boy kidnapped from an Upper Darby home on Sunday. The boy was taken in the early hours on Sunday by the mother's boyfriend while they were visiting family. The boyfriend, Ummad Rushdi, was arrested earlier this week after telling a friend that he shook the crying baby to death and then buried him. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed into a law a bill that raises penalties for motorists who violate the state's keep-right law. The new fines have increased from $50 and $200 to between $100 and $300. The state is trying to crackdown on those who hog the left lane. Motorists are required to stay in the right lane unless passing slower traffic. The bill's sponsors said that staying in the left creates a dangerous situation.
