Hundreds honored Police Officer Moses Walker Jr. today and yesterday during memorial services for the slain policeman at Deliverance Evangelistic Church in North Philadelphia. Yesterday a horse-drawn procession led his body to the church so that mourners from across the city could pay solemn respects. The second suspect in Officer Moses Walker Jr.'s murder is in custody. Chancier McFarland, 19, has been sought by police since Walker's murder a week ago, but he is currently in police custody in Montgomery, AL, after being on the run. His criminal partner, Rafael Jones, has been in custody since Wednesday. Jones has apparently confessed to his involvement in the early morning, August 18th murder and robbery of the off duty Police Officer. He was charged and arraigned on Friday.

Philadelphia jazz legend Byard Lancaster passed away on Thursday after suffering from pancreatic cancer. Lancaster was a master saxophonist and flautist who performed with many other of his better known jazz contemporaries such as Archie Shepp, Elvin Jones, Sunny Murrary, McCoy Tyner, Khan Jamal and Sun Ra. He traveled the world as an ambassador of free form avant-garde jazz spreading the word of Philadelphia music, but always returned home to perform in the streets, clubs, and subways. Read More

 
 
Neil Armstrong, Astronaut, First Man on Moon, Passes Away today

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, passed away today at the age of 82 a few weeks after heart surgery. He stepped onto the moon with the words "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" on July 20th 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission.

Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio in 1930. He studied aerospace engineering at Purdue University but was called up to the Navy before he could finish his degree (he eventually returned and graduated in 1955).... Read More

One of the Philadelphia Eagles all time greats passed away Thursday evening of pneumonia in Lancaster. Steve Van Buren was a member of the Eagles' 1948 and 1949 NFL championship teams. He was drafted in 1944 out of Louisiana State University and immediately made an impact. The bruising running back was the first Eagle to be inducted into the NFL Half of Fame in Canton, OH, in 1965. Rafael Jones has officially been charged with murder, robbery, and related offenses in the August 18th killing of off duty Police Officer Moses Walker Jr. Jones confessed to being part of the two person team that was caught on surveillance camera during the crime. Less than a week after he was killed, Police have one of two suspects in custody and charges have been filed against Rafael Jones in the murder of off-duty Officer Moses Walker Jr. Jones confessed to Homicide detectives late Wednesday night after being apprehended on a bench warrant for missing a parole appointment, at which he was going to receive his electronic monitoring device. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has decided to strip Lance Armstrong of his unparalleled seven Tour de France cycling titles and impose a lifetime ban from competition after Armstrong decided he was done fighting the doping claims and declined to enter USADA's arbitration process. Mark David Chapman has been denied parole for the 7th time after a hearing in front of a three member board on Wednesday. Chapman was sentenced in 1981 to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Chapman shot and killed former Beatle John Lennon outside his New York Apartment building, the Dakota, in December 1980.
