The US Senate has rejected a bill sponsored by Pat Toomey (R., Pa.) and Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.). 60 votes were needed to advance the bipartisan measure, however there were only 54 "yes" votes to 46 "no". The Senate was voting on the specific amendment to a larger gun control bill that would have expanded background checks on gun purchases to include those at gun shows and internet sales. Despite earlier reports that an arrest had been made in the Boston Marathon Bombing, officials are saying that they have no one in custody and no arrests have been made. They have made significant investigative progress. A suspect was identified earlier today from surveillance video from the Lord & Taylor store that was between the two bomb locations. More details are emerging about the nature of the bombs that exploded during the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon. Officials speaking on condition of anonymity have stated that explosives were placed inside 6 liter kitchen pressure cookers and packed with shrapnel such as ball bearings and nails. Two explosions went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday as runners were finishing the race, injuring multiple people.
The large explosions went off within 15 seconds of each other and blocks apart along Boylston Street. There are fatalities, casualties, amputations, and other injuries. Multiple reports say 76ers head coach Doug Collins will resign at the end of the season. He has told the ownership the he has decided not to return to the sidelines for the final year of his four year contract. Collins informed owner Josh Harris of his decision in recent days. Firefighters in Darby, Delaware County spent Saturday morning battling a 3-alarm blaze at a grocery store. The fire broke out at around 6 a.m. at the Liberia Waterside Market on the 800 block of Main Street. Heavy smoke and flames billowed from the market and several walls collapsed inside.
