Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine announced several new restrictions on Monday afternoon, 11/23. The Wednesday night before Thanksgiving has traditionally been the biggest night of the year for bars as people return home and get together with friends and family. Abington Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting outside of the Willow Grove Mall last weekend. 18-year-old Heyzer Perez-Maldonado of Philadelphia has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and carrying a firearm without a license. It happened just before 6 p.m. Sunday, 11/15, in the parking lot outside of Nordstrom Rack and Primark. One person was shot. Students at John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School in Philadelphia staged a walkout Friday morning, 11/20. The demonstration is in response to the announcement by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia earlier this week that the high school will be closed at the end of this academic year. Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine announced the state's vaccine plan on Thursday, 11/19. She said that the health department is monitoring both Pfizer and Moderna, who recently announced promising numbers from their Phase 3 trials of separate coronavirus COVID-19 vaccines. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association released final plans for the upcoming winter sports seasons on Thursday, 11/19. A report from the Philadelphia City Controller's Office released on Wednesday, 11/18, found that over 200 firearms had gone missing from the Philadelphia Sheriff's Office armory between 1977 and 2015. City Controller Rebecca Rhynhart said they received an initial complaint in the fall of 2019 of 15 missing rifles and shotguns. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School in Philadelphia and Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote will be closed at the conclusion of the 2020-2021 academic year. Philadelphia Police are looking for a man wanted for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Kensington last week. It happened on Tuesday, 11/10, around 1 a.m. The girl had left her home and was walking on the 3100 block of Frankford Avenue. She encountered a man at a Sunoco gas station. He offered to give the girl a ride to her aunt's house. He led her to his car and told her to sit inside. Once she was inside, he sexually assaulted her.
