A Philadelphia Police officer was shot and injured in West Philadelphia Thursday evening. It happened around 10:15 pm at 51st and Master Streets. The 8-year veteran bicycle cop, 37-year-old Officer Daniel Kostick, came into contact with two suspects in a white minivan while investigating drug activity. The annual Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak overnight tonight with the best viewing just before dawn on Thursday. The skies should be clearing as the night goes on and the moon should have set by midnight, though it will be getting chilly overnight with temperatures dipping into the 40's.

The Lyrid meteor occurs every mid-April as Earth passes through a stream of dust left over from the comet Thatcher. Normally you can see 10-20 meteors/hour, but sometimes burst up to 100.... Read More

SEPTA Police are investigating after discovering surveillance footage of a brutal brawl between teenagers on Tuesday at the Spring Garden station of the Broad Street line. No one, including the victims, reported the incident. It happened at 3:15 pm on the subway platform. More than a dozen students were involved in the chaos. The Philadelphia Folksong Society has released the initial lineup for this year's 54th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival. As always, the fest will be held on the Old Pool Farm, in Upper Salford Township near Schwenksville, PA, on August 13-16. This year is the 50th anniversary of that infamous Thanksgiving day incident that inspired folk legend Arlo Guthrie's “Alice's Restaurant Massacree”. Bus Hits House in Mount Laurel; Mother Waives Extradition From MD; Suspects Sought in AK47 Robbery

Emergency crews responded to the scene of a bus accident in Mount Laurel, Burlington County this afternoon. The incident happened sometime after 3:30 pm at 13 Lenape Court where the school bus left the road, travelled across the front lawn, and hit the front of the house. There were children on the bus at the time but none were injured. The bus driver did suffer minor injuries. No word on what caused the crash. It is still under investigation.

Man Arrested Smuggling Cigarettes; Revel Owner Can Terminate Leases; Women Discovered in Schuylkill

A man from New York City was arrested last week and charged with smuggling cigarettes in Delaware. 25-year-old Mugahid Tahir Al Ghazali was stopped for speeding on state Route 1 south of Odessa. Authorities uncovered 394 cartons of untaxed cigarettes inside Al Ghazali's rental vehicle that they say were obtained in Virginia. He was charged with possession of untaxed cigarettes and attempting to evade Delaware excise tax. He was released after posting $5,500 bond.

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly have reached an agreement with QB Tim Tebow. He will arrive in town to sign the 1-year deal tomorrow, Monday. The 27-year-old Tebow will join the Eagles as the 4th quarterback on the depth chart behind Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, and Matt Barkley in time for the start of off-season workouts. A freshman St. Joseph's Prep football player collapsed Saturday morning during spring workouts and died. 15-year-old Ryan Gillyard from Upper Darby was at the school's practice field at Cecil B. Moore Avenue and 11th Street when he suddenly collapsed shortly after warmups. He was taken by ambulance to Temple University Hospital where he died. Philadelphia International Records and Sigma Sound Studio Building to be Demolished Saturday Morning

The building that housed the historic Philadelphia International Records and Sigma Sound Studios will meet its fate on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. as the wrecking ball makes way for a planned 47-story hotel and luxury apartment building. The building was owned by famed "Philadelphia Sound" music producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. It was sold to Dranoff Properties last year. The offices were damaged by fire in 2010....
