This weekend is full of things to do around Philly if you aren't heading to the shore. Just a few to keep in mind. The TD Bank Championship Bike Race will be winding through Manyunk Roxborough, Kelly Drive, and the Parkway on Sunday. The jury in the federal corruption trial against former senator and two time democractic presidential candidate John Edwards came back deadlocked on all but one of the felony charges brought against him after nine days of deliberations. Edwards is accused of misappropriating close to $1 million in campaign donor funds to hide his pregnant mistress during his 2008 presidential campaign. The Philadelphia International Cycling Championship will once again come to the city this weekend, and residents of Manayunk are excited but at the same time dreadful of the spectacle that usually surrounds the events. Like last year, city officials plan to enforce a zero-tolerance for rowdy and unruly behavior on race day. They want to promote a family friendly atmosphere. Media Courthouse Bomb Threat, Msgr. Lynn continues testimony, Roy Halladay placed on 15-day DL

This morning in Media, the Delaware County Courthouse was evacuated after bomb threat was telephoned into 911 at 9:30 am. The building was evacuated as a precaution and the surrounding area sealed off. More than 45 prisoners were in the courthouse at the time for trials, hearings, etc and were taken back to county prison. Deputies, bomb squad, and bomb sniffing dogs found nothing during their search and court employees went back to work at 1pm.

Philadelphia City Council voted today to allow you to fight parking tickets by mail or online rather than having to show up in person. The vote was unanimous. This would save people a trip to Center City when they want to fight a parking ticket. The bill would force the agency that hears appeals to allow for online or snail mail appeals within six months. It now goes to the desk of the mayor for a signature.

The 11th season of television's highest rated show wrapped up tonight. American Idol has been handing us hopefuls for a long time. Some are still doing well, like Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson, while most disappear, and many of the brightest stars don't even win top honors and the guaranteed contract. Around 2,000 blue collar workers of the Philadelphia School District created a noisy, traffic blocking protest in Center City during mid-day today. The drivers and maintenance workers were rallying against impending school budget cuts and layoffs. 14 arrests were made when union members blocked traffic at Broad and Race, included SEIU Local 32BJ Union Pres. George Ricchezza. More than 2,000 members of Local 32BJ have received layoff notices from the school district.

Today, May 23rd, would be the 78th birthday for Robert "Bob" Moog, the inventor of the analog synthesizer in the 1950's. Moog synths took off in the late 60's after the Monterrey Pop Festival and 1970's when they became used more and more in rock and pop on record and live in concert. Moog became the de facto synthesizer for the entire music industry.

Bensalem Man Spends ~$70,000 Mistakenly Deposited, Joe Paterno's Pension Payment and a Donation

Joe Paterno earned a state pension of $13.4 million for his 61-year coaching career at Penn State. Paterno's widow, Sue, will receive an initial payment of $10.1 million by the end of May, with the rest to be paid out over the next two years. Calculations were made through the standard formula for anyone in the State Employees' Retirement System, and Paterno received no special consideration, according to his family. Paterno never accessed his pension.
