A New Jersey man who conspired with his then girlfriend and a homeless veteran to create a false feel good story, and turned that into a $400,000 GoFundMe scam was sentenced on Friday, 4/1, on federal charges. Mark D'Amico will serve 27 months in prison followed by three years of probation. He must also pay restituion and undergo gambling, drug and mental health counseling. The Board of Education has selected Tony Watlington as the next Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia. Watlington will replace William Hite on June 16. Hite has served at superintendent for 10 years. Watlington reportedly will have a 5-year $340,000 contract with an option for a sixth year. Watlington has 27 years of educational experience.
