Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera waived his court appearance in Atlantic City today, 6/17. He was arrested and charged with simple assault at the Golden Nugget Casino on May 27. Police responded to a report of domestic violence and found 27-year-old Herrera's 20-year-old girlfriend with visible injuries to her arm and neck. A Drexel University student that had been missing since last week was found dead in Los Angeles. 19-year-old Andrew Yun was last seen on Wednesday, 6/12, at Towers Hall on the 100 block of North 34th Street. He was a first-year student at the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design. There were no signs of foul play. The U.S. Attorney's office says that over $1 billion worth of cocaine was seized during a drug bust at the Port of Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon, 6/18. Officials say that 16.5 tons of cocaine have been confiscated. The drugs were found in seven containers aboard the MSC Gayane. The ship had previously travelled from Chile, Peru, Panama, and the Bahamas. This is the largest drug seizures in the history of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. One person was killed and five other injured when a graduation party at a Southwest Philadelphia park turned into a mass shooting on Father's Day Sunday night, 6/16. Fire broke out near a bait and tackle shop in Sea Isle City on Sunday afternoon, 6/16. It happened around 12:30 p.m. on the 300 block of 43rd Place. Philadelphia Police are asking the public's help in finding a missing boy. 4-year-old Juan Benacio of Northeast Philadelphia was last seen around 2 p.m. Friday, 6/14, by his father at his home on the 6700 block of Castor Avenue. He is 4 feet tall and weighs 60 pounds. He was wearing a blue shirt and brown pants. Juan and his father recently emigrated here from Guatemala. The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Gloucester County, New Jersey, on Thursday evening, 6/13. It happened just before 9 p.m. They say the same tornado touched down twice; once in in Mullica Hill as an EF0, then again near Deptford as an EF1. A juvenile black bear that had been roaming the Philadelphia area the past week has been captured. It was first seen in Warrington, Bucks County, on Saturday, 6/8. The bear was then spotted wandering through neighborhoods in Montgomery County, Oreland on Monday and Wyndmoor on Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, the bear was seen on train tracks just west of the East Falls SEPTA station.
