Mayor-elect Jim Kenney formally announced today that First Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross will be his appointment for police commissioner. He will take over from current commissioner Charles Ramsey who announced his retirement last month and will step down January 7th. Ross is a 26-year-veteran of the force and currently oversees day-to-day operations of the Philadelphia Police Department. Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane was ordered held for trial on more charges related to Kane's alleged leak of grand jury material and then lying about it to another grand jury last year. A Montgomery County judge upheld charges of felony perjury and misdemeanor false swearing and obstruction. Philadelphia Police are describing the double-murder on Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park on Friday as a 'crime of passion.' Investigators say that 25-year-old Shakoor Arline and 32-year-old Lisa Smith were having a sexual encounter in the back seat of an SUV when someone opened the door and fired 9 shots, all of them to the head. One person is dead and two have been taken into custody after shots were fired during a standoff at a Bensalem motel on Saturday afternoon. Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said today that two reports of people finding needles in candy after trick-or-treating in Kennett Square on Halloween last Saturday are "unfounded." The first incident involved an 11-year-old girl who put her mother's own sewing needles in a Twix chocolate bar. She showed it to her parent's who called police. Philadelphia Police are investigating after the body of a girl was recovered from the Delaware River this morning. Police were called to Delaware and Linden Avenues in the Torresdale section of Northeast Philadelphia around 11:15 a.m. The Philadelphia Police Marine Unit found an unresponsive Hispanic girl on the river bank near the Linden Avenue boat ramp. The body of the juvenile was taken to the medical examiner's office for identification. The investigation continues.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department has filed charges against three middle school students for creating and sending sexually explicit messages in a sexting investigation dating back to last April. The suspects range in age from 11 to 15. Most of the photos were selfies from students at Valley Forge and Tredyffrin-Easttown Middle Schools. According to an attorney for Brendan Creato's father, D.J., toxicology results for the boy whose body was found in the woods near his home three weeks ago have come back negative. Brenden went missing on October 13th from his father's apartment in the Westmont section of Haddon Township. His body was found a few hours later in a wooded area near the Cooper River a few blocks away.
