A SEPTA Market-Frankford El train partially derailed Saturday morning near the Spring Garden stop. It happened around 11 a.m. The train was traveling east from Center City to the Frankford Transportation Center. It was slowly crossing over from the eastbound tracks to the westbound tracks because of maintenance work when the lead car derailed. SEPTA says there were 30 people on the train at the time. A federal judge ruled today that the Department of Justice cannot withhold JAG grants from cities that do not meet a new list of immigration conditions set forth by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. 'Sanctuary cities' don't follow those policies and would certainly risk losing grant certification. Two women were wounded when shots were fired at their South Philadelphia home early Friday morning. It happened around 2 a.m. on the 5400 block of Hatfield Street in the Kingsessing neighborhood. A 36-year-old woman was visiting her 40-year-old friend when they heard loud banging at the door. One of the women went to look through the peephole. Philadelphia Police are searching for a man wanted for robbing his former neighbors. Police say that 21-year-old Mark McLaughlin broke into a home on the 7300 block of Hill Road in Roxborough around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. He then tied up a 75-year-old man and assaulted him while the man's 74-year-old sister was still asleep. McLaughlin took the keys to their vehicle and stole their car. A Pennsylvania pharmacist is under arrest after she attempted to kill her chronically ill mother by repeatedly injecting her with insulin. 54-year-old Donna Horger is charged with attempted murder and related offenses. Back in August, staff at Immaculate Mary Nursing Home in Philadelphia found her 74-year-old mother, Mary, unresponsive. She was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital. Thousands attended the funeral this morning of a Spring Garden man who was shot and killed last week in an attempted car jacking near his home. The mass was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City for 38-year-old Gerard Grandzol, a husband and father of two young daughters. One person was killed and two were injured in a fire at a home in Wilmington last night. It happened around 11:10 p.m. Monday on the 100 block of West 37th Street. Flames were coming from the front door when firefighters arrived. Eventually they were able to enter the house and find a man trapped inside. He was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man had run back into the home to save his wife of more than 30 years. She had jumped out of a second story window... The Philadelphia area was overcome by a swarm of insects this evening. Citizens took to Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit to report the unusual amount of flying bugs in their neighborhoods. Reports came from South Philly, Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Center City, Old City, Montgomery County, Bucks County, South Jersey and more. They were described as gnats or maybe flying ants.
